If you are keen to buy a solar watch but find it hard to choose which model to buy then take a look through our selected list of recommended models. We have included a few different specifications. And are sure that there will be at least one watch that suits all your requirements.
Solar-powered watches are generally more expensive. If you are thinking of purchasing one then you’d be advised to consider it an investment that will stay with you for many years.
How Good is the Citizen Eco-Drive Range?
If you are looking for a quality solar-powered smartwatch that looks like a traditional watch then the Citizen Eco-Drive range is the one for you. The Riiiver model allows you to set the side buttons to function the way you want. It can be used to make calls, track steps, get directions and much more.
While the watch may look traditional, the screen is far from it. You’ll get your notifications displayed directly on the face of the watch like a typical smartwatch. You can download functions from the Riiiver store to personalise your experience. Furthermore, it tracks activity really well, giving you a complete overview in the app.
There is a choice between four different designs. However you can only get hold of the Riiiver in the USA currently. Citizen has announced that it will be hitting UK stores very soon.
Is the Garmin Fenix 6X Pro Solar Edition Worth a Try?
The ratings for the Garmin Fenix 6 Pro Solar are excellent and it promises to allow you the ability to charge as you go. The Pro Solar comes in a titanium case. It has solar panels all around the rim so that your watch will never need to be plugged in for long if it’s shown the light of day.
This watch may not be the prettiest but it certainly packs a punch when it comes to tracking your sporting endeavours. The GPS can support whatever outdoor activity interests you the most with fantastic accuracy. The activity tracking capabilities are also superb. You can be certain that your watch will be right when it tells you how you are doing. Furthermore, it provides useful insights when you need them.
It’s expensive but it is incredibly durable. The only issue we have with is that it is pretty similar to its older sibling, the Fenix 5 Plus. So, it may not be worth upgrading if you already have this model
How Does the Matrix PowerWatch 2 Work?
If you can get past the high list price then the souped-up Matrix PowerWatch 2 may be a perfect choice. While not brand new to the market it does still come with many enviable features that make it worth a look. The great thing about it is that it has pretty much everything you’d expect in a smartwatch. However, it’s constantly charging via its in-built solar panels so that you never need to worry about taking it off.
The watch doesn’t come with any software that links it to app platforms. However, it does measure your heart rate, is GPS-enabled and has plenty of other features. This means you can track your every move and analyse your progress over time.
The watch is 42mm in width and has a black metal case with red accents that make it pop. It’s simple-to-use dials give access to all its functions and it feels great on your wrist. All in all, this is a fantastic watch for anyone who wants solar panels, style and no pressure to conform to the well-known platforms. This watch really will last a lifetime of activity and so the initial outlay may make it worthwhile in the long one.
Does the Casio G-Shock Rangeman Live Up to Expectations?
The Casio G-Shock Rangeman was the first solar-powered smartwatch back in 2018 and it would be wrong to not include it in this list of solar-powered timepieces. However, Casio now offers a wide range of solar-powered watches and so if you decide that this model isn’t the one for you there are others to choose from – such as the Casio G-Shock Tough Solar.
Aesthetically it looks good and it feels great on your wrist but the buttons are hard to use and the screen isn’t particularly advanced compared with competitors.
It’s very expensive, especially for a watch that has been around for a while. That being said, I’m pretty sure that if we were stuck in the wilderness then this watch would get you home with ease. It’s mud, dust and waterproof so that you can take it on the wettest expedition without damaging it – and that’s what makes it a great choice for anyone who wants to get a solar charging watch.
In short, solar-powered smartwatches are becoming far more common as the demand for a watch that can be taken into the wilderness increases. There is something really great about knowing that no matter what life throws at you, you will always have a fully charged watch on your wrist.
