Can You Delete Garmin Fenix 7 Maps?

By Isobel Coughlan. Updated: Jun 8, 2022

One perk of modern wearables is an abundance of storage on your wrist. But, many users have found that the Fenix 7 maps take up much more space than expected.

Nothing’s more frustrating than wanting to download third-party apps or software updates and being unable to due to storage issues. Especially if certain features come with the watch that cannot be deleted.

If you’ve realized that you want more space on your wearable but can’t delete the pre-downloaded Fenix 7 maps, keep reading. We’ve explored this subject to make sure you can optimize your device without stress.

Scroll to learn more.

What’s The Issue With Fenix 7 Maps?

If you haven’t yet run out of storage, you might not have realized how much space certain pre-downloaded content takes up.

Many Fenix 7 users have realized that some maps cannot be deleted (specifically the golf maps). While this is great for avid golf players, those who purchased the smartwatch for alternative exercise might not be too pleased.

It seems like users can delete the ski maps, but not the golf ones. We know Garmin is a fan of golf and offers lots of optimized tools for the game, but is there a way to remove these maps from your device?

Unfortunately, at the moment, there is no way to remove the Fenix 7 maps. If you’re running a Fenis 5 or 6 watch, you can remove pre-installed maps, but this takes a lengthy process. Hopefully, future updates will enable Garmin users to pick and choose what features are on their device without getting stuck with storage-consuming maps.

How Much Storage Does A Fenix 7 Have?

Storage isn’t usually an issue for smartwatch users, but if you’re a music streamer or a fan of on-wrist apps, you may want to opt for a watch with extra space.

The Fenix 7 range offers different storage capacities on each model. Unlike other smartwatches, the primary use for Fenix storage is music and maps, so don’t expect any on-wrist games with this device!

The Fenix 7 storage range:

  • Fenix 7S – 16GB
  • 7S Solar – 16GB
  • 7S Sapphire Solar – 32 GB
  • Fenix 7 – 16 GB
  • 7 Solar – 16 GB
  • 7 Sapphire Solar – 32 GB
  • Fenix 7X Solar 16 GB
  • 7X Sapphire Solar

So, it’s easy to see that all Sapphire Solar models offer an impressive 32 GB of storage, whereas standard models only come with 16 GB. If you know you’re someone who likes to download additional content, a Sapphire Solar Fenix 7 map might be for you.

The Bottom Line

Are you trying to delete Fenix 7 maps from your device? Sadly, removing pre-installed maps is currently a lost cause. However, being smart with your data can allow you to download additional features without running out of space.
