The Fossil Gen 7 is an exciting prospect.
Fossil is a famous brand that offers a mix of style and durability, plus the popular WearOS software powers them. From the Fossil Gen 5 to the newest Fossil Gen 6, fans of this brand are spoilt for choice.
But is it time for an upgrade? Some keen-eyed smartwatch followers have spotted that Fossil has entered FCC filings for new smartwatches. Could this be a new generation? Or a completely new smartwatch altogether? Keep on reading to find out.
What Do We Know?
The information we currently have is that Fossil has FCC filings for DW14 and DW15. This is exciting news, as it means there are two smartwatches in development – could this be a Fossil Gen 7 and a Skagen Gen 7?
The FCC documentation shows that the two filings are engineering samples and will be released as the DW14S1, DW14F1, DW15S1, and DW15F1. However, the S1 and F1 smartwatches are the same and are separated for “model names for marketing purposes.”
From the FCC filing, we can also see that the watches will come with the Cb846E-6040-102 charger, the same as the previous models. So, no updates on charging time here.
The Fossil Gen 6 was released just over a year ago, in August 2021. While this isn’t a long time, many smartwatch manufacturers tend to renew their stock every 1 to 2 years. This means we could see a new model at the end of summer or into the fall of 2022.
Possible Fossil Gen 7 Features?
While there’s no official launch yet, we can speculate on features that might appear on this next model.
Firstly, we expect the Fossil Gen 7 to run with WearOS 3 and Snapdragon Wear 5100n platform. These new pieces of tech will boost the new smartwatch and place it above previous models in terms of efficiency and function.
The Fossil Gen 6 only comes in one size – 42mm. We’d like to see another size option for the next launch, giving flexibility to more customers.
We would also like to see extended battery life for the new Fossil Gen 7. The Foffil 6’s battery only lasts 24 hours.
Most smartwatches on the market are splashproof and waterproof to 5ATM, allowing for light swimming. The Fossil Gen 6 is only water-resistant to 3ATM, so it would be nice to see the Fossil Gen 7 more resistant. But, this isn’t a sports watch, so this isn’t a priority for Fossil.
The Fossil Gen 6 also lacks an ECG scanner, a standard tool on most smartwatches. Perhaps the next generation will add this to compete with brands like Apple and Samsung.
The Takeaway
The Fossil Gen 6 is undoubtedly an impressive piece of tech. However, we’re interested in Gen 7 and what Fossil has in store. Make sure you keep up to date with smartwatch news for more information.
