Can The Fenix 6 Track Flight Times?

By Isobel Coughlan. Updated: Nov 23, 2022

Do you want to track a flight via on-wrist technology? Well, you can with the Garmin Fenix 6!

This popular smartwatch can track you, even when flying high in the sky. Users of the Garmin watch have been experimenting with the “Track Me” feature. After some trial and error, they’ve been able to track flights while traveling!

Whether you want to try this experiment yourself, or perhaps you want to know how a smartwatch can track a plane, keep reading. We’ve got all the tips and tricks you need to start tracking your flights.

How Does The Fenix 6 Track A Flight?

Amazingly, a Fenix can track a flight while traveling, but how does this technology really work?

Users of the Garmin forum discovered that the “Track Me” feature could be activated while flying. To create your own flight tracker, make a separate “Track Me” activity and name it “Track Flight.” Ensure your GPS is enabled and get started!

Fenix 6 users stated that they configured their data screen with:

  • Distance
  • Timer
  • Speed
  • GPS Elevation
  • Elevation (of the cabin)
  • GPS signal strength

A second screen was then added for the map.

This provides an all-encompassing look at how fast you’re going and where you’re flying over. Make sure you’re all set up and ready to track before you get on the plane!

What Is Track Me On The Fenix 6?

Unsure what we’re talking about? Don’t worry!

“Track Me” is a feature on the Garmin Fenix ranges that allow users to track their activity. With an added map feature, it will enable users to track typical sports modes (walking, running, cycling).

Garmin watches offer a range of different tracking tools. The most popular tend to be the individual sports modes, as these are specific to the activity. But, Track Me is suitable for hiking as it provides you with a route back. Plus, the app has uses when flying too!

The “Track Me” technology wasn’t built specifically for flying. However, Garmin does offer a range of watches designed for pilots.

The Garmin D2 Air X10 watch has a built-in flight system and a range of optimized features to help you fly confidently. Voice control, on-wrist phone calls, and GPS are all included on this unique wearable, allowing pilots a modern alternative to chronographs.
