Garmin Fenix 6x Pro Solar Review

By Maygen. Updated: Jan 11, 2023

Fenix 6 Pro Solar Overview

The Garmin Fenix 6x Pro Solar is like the Swiss Army Knife of GPS sports watches. With the natural development in technology, we see more and more functions on sports watches. On this reliable and durable wrist piece, you can track your general fitness, rely on assistance and safety features, engage in sports and coaching modes, and do it all with music.

If you’re connected via Bluetooth or Wifi, you can make the most of entertainment apps like Amazon Prime Music, Deezer, or Spotify. You can also make the most of the Garmin Connect app with Bluetooth and your smartphone. Keen athletes with a penchant for the outdoors will love this watch given all its connectivity.

You might be sweating thinking about the battery life. That is the greatest parts of the Pro Solar edition. It charges with sunlight, so you can extend the battery life any time you’re exposed to UV rays.

Any Garmin smartwatch or sports watch model with a Bluetooth connection is a great asset to have in terms of safety, too. Garmin running watches, including the Fenix 6 Pro Solar, offer Assistance and Incident Detection safety features.

Both of these work with the Garmin Connect App, where your emergency contact information is stored. As long as you are in a network area, these safety features can notify your contacts in case you are in an emergency or need help during your workout.

Fenix 6 Pro Solar Size & Design

Garmin Fenix 6 Range outdoors

The Solar edition of Garmin’s Fenix 6 comes in three case size options: 42, 47, or 51mm. The case is necessary for the Fenix 6’s 1.3 inch display screen. This larger screen is perfect for anyone out on the go, out on a run, or out on the water.

    Battery Life

    Battery modes

Different modes offer different battery life length. It all depends on what modes you’re using and how hard you’re smashing the apps.

    • 21 – 24 days as a smartwatch
    • 60 – 66 hours in GPS mode
    • 15-16 hours using GPS and listening to music
    • 46 – 56 days in expedition mode (including GPS)
    • Up to 120 days in battery saving mode

      Activity Tracking and Accuracy

Garmin has always been great at accurate activity tracking. The heart rate monitor on a Garmin has always been great at monitoring and the GPS has been able to pick up the location within a few yards. This isn’t a new thing, but they have certainly spent considerable time developing their sensors from previous models.

The Solar will display up to 6 data fields on-screen during a given activity. You’re able to pick these from the menu. Things like pace and cadence, lap times, and heart rate.

      Verdict

The Fenix 6x Pro Solar isn’t unique, but it’s certainly refined. Garmin has gathered the best bits of their other models and integrated them together. You get everything you need quickly and easily. From the rumors we hear, the imminent Fenix 7 may be solar across the range. If you want the newest and greatest, you may want to wait for it.

The downside might be that it’s very data-heavy, maybe to the detriment of the user. You might not need sleep tracking, hydration checks, and stress monitoring. It all depends on your needs.

Otherwise, the onboard coach, sensors, exceptional battery life, and ability to connect your Bluetooth headphones for hours of music on an accurately-tracked run make this solar watch an absolute winner.

Hi Sachin, thank you for your question. The Garmin Fenix 6x Pro Solar is really a great choice but we would always advise you to do some further research. We have reviewed some great watches on this site however we really can’t recommend any specific one.

On Friday, we have a post coming up that compares the various Garmin devices so please pop back and have a look at that article, it may help you decide.

Hope this has helped, take care

Hi, thanks for the review. Does the time display constantly, like a real watch, or only show up when shaken?
