If you’re serious about your fitness, the Myzone MZ-Switch could be the next wearable you need.
Designed to work alongside your existing device, the MZ-Switch claims to be the world’s first interchangeable heart rate monitor. It combines PPG and ECG technology to bring you 95% accuracy.
Here’s all the information about this nifty little device that becomes available today (March 24th 2021)
Myzone MZ-Switch Design
As I have previously mentioned, this is not a standalone device. Instead, it integrates with your current wearable. With that said, there is no screen needed as it only tracks your data.
What makes the Myzone MZ-Switch unique is how you wear it, or rather the options you have to wear it. Depending on your activity of choice or what is most comfortable for you, this heart rate monitor is worn either on your wrist, arm or chest. Positions are easily switched (see what they did with the name). You simply unbutton one strap and switch it to another. The device then detects whether it uses PPG or ECG sensors.
Strap colours are currently available in aqua, grey, red, purple and black.
Inside the Myzone MZ-Switch
The integration capabilities of the Myzone MZ-Switch is really where it shines. We will get to that in a second. Firstly, the device uses Bluetooth and ANT+ to connect with your smartphone or GPS watch. Secondly, it can hold up to 36 hours of workout data before you need to sync it with your device.
When it comes to integration, the list is impressive. If you use any of the following devices or apps, the MZ-Switch will integrate seamlessly:
- Android
- iOS
- Apple Watch
- Apple Health
- Wear OS
- Samsung’s Tizen
- Strava
- Garmin
- MapMyRun
Another impressive detail of this heart rate monitor is the battery. Myzone claims users can get up to 6 months between charges (as always, this depends on usage). When it does need charging, you simply plug it into the USB charger.
Fitness Tracking
Myzone has used gamification to keep users motivated. Rather than basing rewards on steps taken, the MZ-Switch rewards users for effort. Users collect Myzone Effort Points (MEP) for exercise or any physical activity. So whilst it is easy to earn MEP’s, you will see the amount you receive increase drastically when the effort you put into your exercise increases. The Myzone MZ-Switch also incorporates competition with friends, family and even whole classes at gyms. This reward method has been particularly popular with gyms. They consider it a much more motivating way of competing. Class goers no longer have to worry about whether they are the fastest/strongest/fittest but rather how much oomph they put into the class.
The Myzone MZ-Switch is fully waterproof and even tracks your heart rate whilst you swim. Myzone recommends wearing the device on the wrist for activities such as swimming, running and walking. Then wearing on the chest when taking part in more intense activities such as HIIT or weight lifting. They also recommend wearing the device on the chest when you want a particularly accurate reading as ECG is 99.4% accurate.

The device becomes available today, available from Myzone directly, and costs $159
Conclusion
The Myzone MZ-Switch is an excellent device for those serious about improving their fitness and having more in-depth knowledge of their performance and recovery times. However, you have to bear in mind that this is a peripheral fitness device. You will still need a smartphone or GPS watch.
If you do not need in-depth heart rate knowledge, then several watches will already provide you with basic heart rate data without the need for an extra device. You can check out our reviews of some of them below:
