Polar Grit X vs Sunnto 9 Peak

By Emma Morris. Updated: Jan 5, 2022

Finding a watch that can provide advanced levels of support when you are serious about sport can be a challenge, especially when you are on a budget. From having the right number of sports modes to offering a wide range of sensors, high-spec smartwatches often come with high price tags. However, two devices claim to offer the features every avid sports fan needs, so we decided to compare them to determine the best value all around! This is the Polar Grit X vs Sunnto 9 Peak.

Which Offers the Best Design – Polar Grit X vs Sunnto 9 Peak?

Most smartwatch brands work hard to impress consumers when it comes to design, as this area is often noticed first. The Polar Grit X is 47mm and comes with a 1.2-inch touchscreen that is easy to read in all types of light. The watch is sweat and dustproof and can be taken to depths of 100 meters when you use it for swimming, but it cannot be used for diving.

The Polar Grit X is lightweight on your wrist, coming in at just 64g, and comes with an always-on display to make checking your stats easier than ever before. The screen offers a 240 x 240 resolution and comes with damage-resistant glass that can take a bashing when you are out and about. Plus, you can also change the band to suit your mood, allowing you to switch your look depending on your situation.

The Sunnto 9 Peak offers a great design and is just a bit bigger and heavier than the Grit X, weighing in at 81g and 50 mm. This means that it is bigger on your wrist, making it easier to read but may put you off if you have smaller wrists. You can also switch your bands on this device for easy personalization.

The 9 Peak is also dust and sweat resistant and has a 100m water resistance level, but cannot be taken diving. The touchscreen is 300 x 320 and is easy to read, as well as being protected by a Sapphire glass display.

While these watches are incredibly similar, we prefer the Polar Grit X. It is slightly smaller and lighter, making it easier to use when exercising or going about your daily tasks.

Which is Better for Activity Tracking

When it comes to tracking your moves, the Sunnto 9 Peak offers GPS to help get the most accurate data and has a heart rate monitor to provide you with continuous updates on how well your heart is performing throughout the day. It also comes with an accelerometer and compass but doesn’t have a barometer to help you when you are outdoors.

The Sunnto 9 Peak comes with a cadence sensor to help accurately track your cycling efforts and a stroke monitor for swimming. Its impressive range of tracking features is sure to help you achieve your fitness goals with ease!

The Polar Grit X comes with a complete ABC system that makes it great for outdoor use. It will help you know when to take shelter and when you are safe to carry on with your adventure. It can also work to measure your altitude, which will make it easier to get the most accurate GPS measurements when you want to analyze your hard work.

The Grit X also comes with a heart rate monitor to help you get the most accurate overview of your exercise efforts and understand what your resting heart rate is. Ultimately, both watches have many quality features. Still, the Polar Grit X offers the barometer that makes it better for people who want to use their watch for outdoor activity.

Who Has the Best Sports Features

While the activity tracking tools are vital to getting accurate data, the sports features offer the most variety for users. The Polar Grit X can hold twenty different sports on the watch for tracking out of a library of over one hundred. It also comes with a route tracker that can track your distance, pace, calories, steps, weight, water, and sleep!

When your activity is over, you can then access activity reports in the Grit X companion app and marvel over the depth of detail the watch can provide. If you want to set yourself some simple goals, then the watch can help you do this, and you can even use the exercise tagging feature to add even more detail to your workouts so that when it comes to analyzing, you will know which session it applies to.

The Sunnto 9 Peak also offers a myriad of sports modes to choose from and helps you to set achievable goals when you want to improve your performance. Like the Grit X, the 9 Peak can track distance, pace, sleep, calories, and sleep. However, it doesn’t offer weight and water tracking like the Grit X does.

The Sunnto 9 Peak companion app is not as great as the Polar app, but the provided data will help you get a clear idea of how you are doing and what you need to do to improve. Overall, the Polar Grit X beats the Sunnto 9 Peak in this category, too, as it is slightly more refined and offers greater levels of tracking.

Which Offers the Best Battery Life

The Sunnto 9 Peak comes with a huge 14-day battery life that not only saves you from the constant charging habit but means that when you head off on a break, you won’t need to worry about taking a charger with you. However, the battery life does reduce when GPS is on, and if you want to use GPS constantly, you will get around 25 hours of GPS usage per charge.

The Polar Grit X offers seven days of battery life that works well with weekend charging, but it isn’t as long as you may have hoped for in a watch that you can take on expeditions. However, the Grit X can last for 40 hours when in GPS mode, beating the Sunnto device’s GPS offer. Overall, we’d choose the Sunnto 9 Peak for the best battery as the option for it to last over a week before needing to be charged is excellent!

Which Should I Pick – Polar Grit X vs Sunnto 9 Peak?

When it comes down to choosing between these two devices, we’d go for the Polar Grit X purely because it is slightly smaller and weighs less, as well as offering better data analytics and tracking solutions. However, if you want something a bit bulkier with a longer battery, the Sunnto 9 Peak is well worth considering. Either way, you will end up with a budget watch that works hard to support you as you move.

While you’re here, take a look at some other great watches for outdoor fans.
