Fossil Gen 6
Fossil is a brand known for its good design and more traditional watch styles. Their latest release is the Fossil Gen 6, which offers some modern features with an aesthetic design. This watch was released on September 27th and costs $300.
Design & Display
Design and display are always key features to examine when looking at smartwatches. With a whole host of technological updates, displays and designs keep getting better and better with every new release.
Display features
The Galaxy Watch 4 comes with two different displays on two models. The 44 mm watch features a 450 x 450 display, and the 40mm model offers a 396 x 396-pixel display. Each watch display has a pixel density of at least 330 PPI and has an “always-on” AMOLED display.
The Fossil Gen 6 watch has not been updated since the Gen 5 model. However, the display is still modern and impressive. The Fossil Gen 6 has an AMOLED display with 416 x 416 resolution. The pixels per inch are lower than the Galaxy Watch 4 at 328 PPI, but this is a minor difference.
Design
When it comes to design, the Galaxy Watch 4 features a redesigned frame that eliminates any gaps between the smartwatch chassis and bands. The watch still features a circular watch face and silicone band, perfect for users who like the minimalist style and comfort. This smartwatch looks similar to previous designs; however, the Galaxy Watch 4 model features a spinning bezel too.
The Fossil Gen 6 is a good-looking watch that features a stainless steel dial and a round watch face. This smartwatch also has a flexible strap and various style options too. This watch has a weightier design than other smartwatches, but it’s still a lightweight option that’s easy to wear daily. Users can choose between masculine and feminine designs, making them perfect for all tastes.
Fitness & Health
Many smartwatches have specialized health and fitness features now, but not all watches are specialized to include the latest trackers and sensors. The Fossil Gen 6 and Galaxy Watch 4 both feature high-tech monitors, but there are some key differences between the two watches.
Fossil Gen 6
The Fossil Gen 6 is not a dedicated fitness watch. However, you can still use many basic fitness features when exercising with it. For example, users can access a heart rate monitor, a blood oxygen monitor, and a cardiogram app too.
With the Fossil Gen 6, you can also access the Google Fit applications that help fitness regimes and general health monitoring. Fit workout helps users track workouts alongside other health metrics like meditation, breathing, sleep, and health goals.
Galaxy Watch 4
The Galaxy Watch 4 offers some sophisticated health and fitness trackers, including blood oxygen sensors, stress monitors, breathing data, and general fitness features. Users can also access GPS, pedometers, distance trackers, and more.
The watch has a dedicated activity tracking app that you can pair onto your smartphone to access data easily. This shows you pedometer details, sleep count, active minutes, and calorie information too. If you’re inactive for a certain amount of time, the watch will send you a message to make sure you remember to get up and move around too!
Battery Life & Charge
Battery life is an essential aspect of choosing a watch; you don’t want to spend more time with your watch on charge than wearing it!
The Galaxy Watch 4 can last for up to 3 days; however, many reports suggest that it sometimes only lasts one day. This sounds short, but with GPS, heart rate trackers, and other apps running, the watch will be using a lot of charge at once.
The Fossil Gen 6 watch offers a rapid charging time and can go from 0% to up to 80% of charge in approximately 30 minutes. While this may need to be charged more often if you use many features, you can rest knowing it doesn’t take too long to power up.
Key Differences
Before you decide on a watch, here are some key differences between the Galaxy Watch 4 and the Fossil Gen 6 to remember!
- The Fossil Gen 6 is a more expensive option at approx $300.
- Galaxy Watch 4 offers a wide range of smartwatch features including WearOS3, LTE connectivity, and third-party apps.
- The Fossil Gen 6 offers Google Assistant.
- The Fossil Gen 6 has more aesthetic designs compared to the minimal look of the Galaxy Watch 4.
- The Galaxy Watch 4 is waterproof to 5ATM, whereas the Fossil Gen 6 is only waterproof to 3ATM.
Conclusion
To summarise our comparison of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 vs Fossil Gen 6, both watches offer users a range of modern features. The Galaxy Watch 4 is more evolved as a smartwatch. The Fossil Gen 6 has some more attractive and traditional designs, but it’s slightly behind in terms of fitness & health trackers and all-around smartwatch features too. The new Gen 6 is much more evolved than the Gen 5, though, so if you want to stay true to the Fossil brand, you will experience better features!
