The Skagen Jorn Hybrid HR – How Good Is It?

By Scott Anfield. Updated: Jul 25, 2021

The Skagen Jorn Hybrid HR, a hybrid smartwatch that offers two weeks of charge. We wanted to share our review, so you can decide whether this may be the kind of watch you want to purchase.

Skagen is considered a luxury watchmaker, but did you know Fossil owns them? Fossil is well known for its range of smartwatches. They continue to release new watches each year, solidifying their consumer base.

What Makes the Skagen Jorn Hybrid HR Unique?

The ideal watch is one with a traditional timepiece look, with the features of a smartwatch. That is what the Skagen Jorn Hybrid HR is offering. It has easy-to-read dials, and on first look, you’d be convinced that it was not smart in any way.

Look a bit closer, and you will discover its e-ink display that gives you access to helpful information: steps, heart rate, weather, and more. You can customise the information to suit your needs. If you find it a little clunky to use, bear in mind that it’s not primarily a smartwatch.

If you have smaller wrists or do not like oversized watch faces, you can pick up this new device in either a 42mm or 38mm. The straps are timeless and made of leather in either brown or black. The watch itself comes in stainless steel, grey, black, or rose gold options, making it suitable for all genders.

How Long is the Battery Life?

Many watches are sold with promising battery lives, only to disappoint; the Skagen Jorn Hybrid HR offers fourteen days of battery before charging is needed. The reason that this watch offers such a great battery life is that the e-ink display is power saving too. The other obvious reason for the lengthy battery life is because it is a hybrid rather than a fully-powered smartwatch.

How Much Does the Skagen Jorn Hybrid HR Cost?

Skagen marketed their new watch as an affordable choice for anyone that wants the best of both worlds. Starting at $195, you can choose from a range of colours and options. It’s not so cheap that you can buy one without thinking, but the price tag is certainly less than other hybrid watches on the market.

    Health and Fitness Features

If you love to stay in shape or want to start being more active, then the Skagen Jorn Hybrid HR will help you with your basic needs.

From the basic step counter to motivate you to move every day to the sleep tracker that analyzes your sleep quality, all your health and fitness needs are covered.

The watch comes with a pretty decent heart rate monitor and a range of workout options. This includes an auto-detection function when you start to work out but forget to set your watch. Once your day is over or your workout has ended, check out your stats to see your progress. Then set new goals each day to push yourself that bit further.

    • Find out how heart rate monitors work here.

However, if you are serious about exercise and want to access in-depth tracking features, then this watch is not for you. The features it offers are solid, but it lacks extended analytics to improve your fitness outcomes.

If you love to listen to music when you work out, you can use your watch to control it. The watch also offers notification capability to keep you in touch with others. The watch face is customisable to display the information that matters to you the most. It is a versatile and user-friendly device that looks great!

What is the App like for the Skagen Jorn Hybrid HR?

Interestingly, the Skagen Jorn Hybrid HR does not use a well-known operating system such as Wear OS. Still, it does have Bluetooth connectivity and gives you access to the Skagen Hybrid App that provides an overview of all your efforts, measurements, and notifications. The app is easy to connect to, and the information provided gives you insight into how successful your efforts have been.

When it comes to using the app – you can expect it to do two main things. First, as previously mentioned, it gives you access to your fitness data as this is not accessible from the watch itself.

Second, it will give you access to the customisation feature so that you can get your watch set up in a way that suits your needs. You can switch the visible data on the watch face or even download new watch faces to suit your style.

    • If you currently have an Apple Watch, check out the range of faces here.

Is the Skagen Jorn Hybrid HR Worth Buying?

There are lots of good reasons why the Skagen Jorn Hybrid HR may appeal to you. From the e-ink display to the two-week battery life, you can rely on this device to keep going when you need it to.

If you are in the market for a new watch and want a hybrid, this device is a good choice. It will provide you with reliable feedback and accurate tracking wherever you take it.
