Smartwatch vs. Fitness Tracker
The competition between Fitbit’s Versa 3 or Charge 4 comes down to a smartwatch vs. fitness tracker battle. You may think these differences in the Fitbit devices will make your decision easier. But, these smart devices have a few similarities, including price. The Versa 3 and Charge 4 aren’t the same price exactly, but it is close when you consider the Versa 3 is a full-color smartwatch, and the Charge 4 is a grayscale fitness tracker.
Versa 3 or Charge 4: Overall Design
The Black and white/grayscale touchscreen display on the Charge 4 is still nice and bright, but if you want a full-color display, you will want to look at the Versa 3 smartwatch. The Charge 4 fitness tracker controls are simple, as is the user experience. On the Versa, you can swipe to apps, quick settings, and notifications.
And as expected, the Versa 3 has a larger screen, while the Charge 4 screen is as compact as most Fitbit bands, giving it a sportier and more casual style. Both watches allow you to customize your watch face.
The smartwatch design of the Versa 3 also gives it more sensors and components like a speaker, microphone, or ambient light sensor.

Health & Exercise Tracking
Both the Charge 4 smart band and the Versa 3 smartwatch offer up to 20 exercise modes to track. The modes include basic workouts like swimming, running, or cycling, and additional modes like kickboxing! Both devices will count your steps, calories, climbed floors, and heart rate throughout your days. With the watch’s multi-satellite tracking, workout location or distance monitoring will be more accurate on the Versa 3.
Sleep tracking is the same with both Fitbit devices. Both can offer detailed information about your sleeping habits, like time spent in deep sleep or your estimated oxygen variation.
Smart Functions
For a simple and affordable watch, the Fitbit Charge 4 offers a great selection of smart features like the ability to send quick replies or reject phone calls from your wrist (on Android phones only). The smart band also displays the weather, your phone’s calendar events, and GPS tracking during workouts (using a Bluetooth connection to a smartphone).
The Versa 3 will, of course, come with more smart features, given that it is a smartwatch. And these smart functions come at a slight price increase from the Charge 4’s price. In addition to the basics like GPS, the Charge 4 offers Spotify controls and Fitbit Pay. Furthermore, phone controls on your wrist include answering calls, Find my Phone, and Voice Assistant capabilities.
Versa 3 and Charge 4 Battery Life
The Versa 3 smart features quickly use the smartwatch’s battery life. But even when you use it for activity tracking, calls, texts, and payments in one day, you can still get about two days.
A lack of smart features and a grayscale display can undoubtedly help you save on battery life. The Charge 4 can hold a battery charge for up to five or six days!

Conclusion: Fitbit Versa 3 and Charge 4
It could be worth spending a little extra money for the Versa 3 over the Charge 4. The small additional cost gives you many smart features on a reliable brand’s watch. It is an especially attractive watch for Android smartphone users, who are also more likely to be Spotify users. The large screen and full-color display makes everything easier to read during any activity in your day and under any lights, especially for those with eyesight issues.
The Charge 4 is still a handy little device, perfect for a sporty or more active person who needs a no-fuss watch that can still track essential health, fitness, and sleep statistics.
