Certina Watches

Certina Watch

Background

The Certina Watch brand is certainly very well established having started up in 1888. Brothers Alfred and Adolf Kurth started developing watch movements in Switzerland. Soon they started making whole timepieces and started a company. Firstly, they started with a focus on sport and have stuck close to this throughout their life.

Certina doesn’t offer smartwatches, so you won’t be able to sync up with your iPhone or Android device.  They do offer some awesome innovations, though, so read on.

Certina is known for some world-firsts. Firstly, In 1936 they made the digital watch. Later, in 1971 they came out with the first-ever watch that displayed human biorhythms (in plain English, this is your internal body clock).

What Certina does best

Certina watches that come with Double Security have consequently earned themselves a place as some of the highest esteemed watches for innovation, precision and reliability.

Only the best materials are used as well as only the most up-to-date methods for creating them. The best part is they offer their watches at an affordable price. This is in line with their commitment to being reliable.

Certina watches are made of high-grade stainless steel, sapphire crystal and hold a minimum ATM rating of 10.

The Double Security concept raised the standard of watches that are water and shock-resistant. They’ve consistently produced the most resistant watches, able to withstand insanely extreme conditions.

Their second principle is precision. The Certina automatic collection has Swiss-made ETA movements inside. Thanks to some world-class quartz movements producing pint-point accuracy, Certina earned the confidence of serious athletes across multiple disciplines.

The Certina Collection

Here’s a look at five great Certina watches.

Certina Ds Action Diver Men’s Automatic Watch

Find the DS Action Certina watch online ($654 / £510)

This first timepiece is a particularly popular option from Certina. It has a stainless 12mm thick steel case off 43mm. The wristband is made of stainless steel also, which closes with a clasp. It has a big uni-directional bezel with a blue finish.

There’s a scratch-proof face made of sapphire. The dial is easily read, like a good dive watch should be. The date display sits between the 4 and 5 positions.  The markets are luminous so you’re able to see it in low-light conditions.

Inside, it’s powered by Swizz-made automatic movement. It doesn’t need charging by any other means than the natural movement of your arm. It’s also got an ISO 6425 200m water resistance rating.

Certina DS Caimano Men’s Watch

This is a second popular men’s watch from Certina. It’s less sporty and more of a dress watch.

It has a 38mm case in stainless steel which is 9mm thick. It’s a fairly dainty watch in comparison to its siblings. It pairs perfectly with its leather strap and closes with a buckle clasp.

This is one of the most cost-effective watches. It’s also one of the more simplistic, but equally stylish. It has gold hands and markers. It sits on a silver background for contrast. The date display is subtle and sits at the 6 position.

Inside this watch is the accurate Swiss-made quartz movement. You won’t’ be surprised to see the sapphire crystal glass on the display to resist scratches. It has an ATM rating of 10 so it’ll withstand 100m of water resistance.

Certina DS-1 Men’s Automatic Watch

Find Ceritna DS-1 for men online ($435 / £332)

This is an everyday watch. Again, it comes in a 40mm stainless steel case which is 13mm thick. The strap is also in stainless steel with a foldover clasp.

The glass that sits atop the watch is sapphire crystal. Its dial has a day date design that’s proven really popular. It shows the day of the week at the top of the face and the month can be found at the 6 position. It has a gunmetal colour hour markers that sit on a silver background.

The hands and markers are luminous so you can see them in low light. It’s powered via Swiss-made auto movements. It has the commonly-seen function of never needing a battery as it gets its power from your arm movements.

It has a water-resistance rating of 10ATM.

Certina DS Podium GMT Chronograph Watch

Shop Certina DS Podium ($335 / £297)

This Certina is 43mm by 12mm in an ion-plated stainless steel base in black. It has a genuine leather strap which is soft as anything and the buckle has a triple fold clasp.

No need to worry about scratches as the face is covered by sapphire glass. The dial itself boasts all the capabilities the watch has. High visibility being one. There’s contrast offered by the white markers on a black background. The date display sits at the 6 position.

Inside, there’s high-end Swiss-quartz movement for power. This means its incredibly reliable and accurate. There’s a 100m water-resistance rating for extra confidence.

Certina DS-2 Precidrive Chronograph Men’s Watch

($349 / £268)

This men’s Certina has the (probably now predictable) 41mm stainless steel case that comes in at a chunky 14mm thickness. The strap is that gorgeous genuine leather with red stitches for a beautiful sporty finish. Luckily, if you’re a sporty person, it’s also got a 10ATM rating (100m).

There’s a layer of sapphire crystal protecting the face from wear and tear. It has slim hands with baton hour markers. As with the previously mentioned watch, the date window sits on the 6 position.

Inside this timepiece is something that makes it different from all of the above. There’s an innovative piece of tech called precidrive quartz movement. This produces Certina’s highest level of accuracy in a watch. Watches with precidrive have a deviation of plus or minus 10 seconds in a whole year. That is 10x more accurate than a standard quartz watch.

Are there alternatives to a Certina watch?

If you have a budget that expands beyond that of the Certina collection, then you should consider the Nixon brand. You can read all about them here.
