Polar Grit X Review

By Emma Morris. Updated: Nov 29, 2021

Finding a multi-sport smartwatch that can provide you with robust tracking, high-quality design, and a companion app that offers excellent support typically means that you have to buy one of the big-name brands. The issue with doing this is that it can cost significantly more than you are willing or able to pay. The good news is that if you are looking for something that will cost you far less and still offer the same capabilities you want, you can achieve it by investing in the Polar Grit X

We took a closer look at this watch design and have shared all the essential information so that you can buy with confidence.

How Well is the Polar Grit X Designed?

If you are looking for a multi-sport smartwatch that doesn’t try to show off, the Polar Grit X is an excellent choice. It offers a durable and unpretentious design and comes with a silicone strap that is comfy on the wrist and can be adjusted to fit perfectly. The watch is tough enough to pass military-standard tests and boasts up to 100m of water resistance.

The Polar Grit X is 47mm and has a clear screen that is easy to read. As the watch is understated, the large screen does not feel too big or too fussy. The other great thing is that it’s lightweight on your wrist and weighs in at just 64g, stopping your wrist from getting fatigued with it on.

The color display is backed up with a touchscreen that is easy to navigate, and the watch has been designed to be easy to read in all weather conditions and all times of the day and night so that you are never left without the information you need.

Five navigational buttons sit around the watch’s casing and help you to use all the features with ease. Ultimately, this watch is not flashy or over the top, but it is designed well and offers a classier edge for you to enjoy.

What Activities Can I Track with the Polar Grit X?

The Polar Grit X is sold as a multi-sport smartwatch. It’s aimed at people who are serious athletes or keen outdoor adventurers. If this sounds like something you have been looking for, then you will be pleased to know that you can access over 130 pre-programmed activities and choose up to twenty to track on your watch.

In addition to the available activities for tracking, you can also use the Polar Grit X to get feedback. This will help you improve your recovery time and track your sleep. Furthermore, the personalized fitness test will support you to get better results.

What Fitness Features Can I Get From the Polar Grit X?

Some of the key fitness tracking features include interval timers, racing options, and other timers that you can use to track your performance. The Hill Splitter support is meant to give you feedback on your efforts as you traverse hills and mountains.

Sadly, this feature doesn’t work as well as it promises, missing out on smaller climbs in favor of higher ascents. There is no doubt that this feature needs some further work. And it will be a valuable asset when it happens!

While there is no offline map support, the mapping software is basic but accurate when you have a signal. You can use your watch to get to your destination or even as a location tracking device. Ideal for when you want to get some help or share your location with others.

The maps are not particularly detailed. But this doesn’t matter too much as the information that is there is accurate and adequate for the average outdoor session.

There is also a built-in GPS and a heart rate monitor that will keep you up to date on any spikes as well as track your performance as you exercise. This no-frills watch is a great choice for anyone that wants to get the best from their exercise, understand their performance and get accurate data each time they workout.

The Polar Flow companion app also bumps up the rating of this device. It provides you with detailed and accurate data to analyze, as well as reports and progress overviews to help you understand how well you are performing. The app is simple to navigate and can be personalized to suit your needs. However, you will need to be prepared to wait a while for the syncing to finish. Unfortunately, the data transfer can take some time to complete.

    How Good is the Battery?

Battery life is an important feature for any smartwatch user. Especially when relying on your device for locations, sports tracking, and more. The Polar Grit X can reach around five days of battery life before it needs to be charged, or up to 40 hours of GPS usage.

This may sound great, but if you are planning to take your watch away on an adventure, you may need to consider your charging options so that you don’t run out of fuel.

There are several power-saving options that you can enjoy, helping you extend your battery life as much as possible. These options allow you to turn off battery-draining features like the HR monitor, GPS, and more. Plus, the watch will estimate how long it will last using the settings you have chosen. So you can work out whether it will get you through your activity without running out.

    The Pros and Cons

Are you seriously considering getting the Polar Grit X but not yet convinced? Check out the top pros and cons to get a clear idea of what you will be purchasing!

    Pros

    • Durable design
    • Stylish and understated
    • Detailed recovery information
    • Excellent companion app
    • Personalized training suggestions

    Cons

    • Only has a five-day battery life
    • Offline mapping is not available
    • Poor hill splitter

Is the Polar Grit X Worth Buying?

Suppose you are a serious athlete or need a watch that can support you on your outdoor adventures. In that case, the Polar Grit X could be a great purchase. Especially if you want to enjoy personalized training support and a wide range of tracking features! The watch is durable and stylish. Furthermore, it comes with an excellent app for you to use. Ideal for when you want to look at whether your hard work has been paying off or not!

However, be warned that the battery life only lasts for five days. And there is no offline mapping feature when you are out of signal. This means that if you are looking to take your watch on an expedition, you may need to look for something different. Overall, we think the Polar Grit X is a great buy for anyone who is building up their outdoor adventure experiences.
