All About the Latest VTech Release
Launched on the 31st of March, the new“My First Kidi Smartwatch”is a fun wearable designed for children.
This product aims to inspire children through safe technology. Rather than making a jump to standard smartwatches, outfitting your child with this simple wearable helps children adapt to technology through education and fun.
My First Kidi Smartwatch
The “My First Kidi Smartwatch” is a unique wearable. This band will inspire your children with a bright and colorful design and flexible materials.
Unlike adult smartwatches, this watch focuses on games and doesn’t come with high-tech features (if you’re looking for a GPS watch for kids, you’ll want to look elsewhere). Kids can play with a virtual pet dog with on-wrist tech. This introduces children to educational games, emotions, and stimulating activities and makes it one of the best watches for kids.
The watch also offers:
- 20 analog and digital clock faces.
- An alarm clock and timer.
- Mindfulness breathing.
- A “School Mode” to eliminate distractions in the classroom.
This watch currently retails for $44.99 and is suitable for kids between 3 and 5.
KidiZoom Smartwatch DX3
Another option from VTech is the KidiZoom Smartwatch DX3. This wearable mimics adult options and is less game-focused. It’s also focused on older age groups, and it’s recommended for kids between the ages of 4 and 12.
Kids can choose from four colorways: red, pink, purple, and blue. This is an ideal gift for kids curious about tech, as it provides a safe and educational alternative to modern smartwatches.
Popular KidiZoom Smartwatch DX3 features include:
- Custom clock faces.
- Single-player games.
- Daily reminders.
- Torch and flashlight built-in.
- Dual cameras for videos, pictures, and selfies.
- School Mode.
- Friend pairing – users can send messages and play games on-wrist.
- Rechargeable USB battery.
Are Smartwatches Suitable For Kids?
Many parents feel unsure whether they should buy smartwatches for their children. However, the smartwatches specifically designed for children generally include limitations on what kids can access and do with the watch, and they often focus on educational features as well.
For example, the VTech options offer School Modes and educational games, and they don’t allow third-party apps, making them some of the best smartwatches for children. Other brands offer smartwatches designed specifically for young people as well; Fitbit’s kids’ watch, called the Ace 3, is a simple watch with basic features.
While Apple doesn’t make a specific version of the Apple Watch for children, they do offer a “Family Setup” feature that lets parents track their kids’ locations and set parental controls on the watch. Check out our article for more info on how to set up an Apple Watch for kids.
