Fitbit Add Smartwatch Mental Health Features

By Isobel Coughlan. Updated: Jun 29, 2022

Fitbit Mental health features

Mental health is just as important as physical health. But, unlike fitness, not all smartwatches offer tools for your mind. However, new Fitbit smartwatch mental health tools have been released to help users de-stress and maintain calm when out and about.

It’s no secret that mental health issues have increased since the start of the Coronavirus pandemic. We’ve seen searches for “mental health help” rise, proving more of us are looking for ways to calm our minds.

Thankfully, Fitbit has started integrating more mental health tools into its smartwatches. Want to know more? Keep reading to find out what this brand is offering.

Fitbit Smartwatch Mental Health Features

Released in May to celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month, Fitbit curated new tools to help those who want help via their smartwatch. This has been thanks to the support of Google, as Google acquired the fitness brand for $2.1 billion.

Let’s look at their new tools and features.

Updated Searches

When a mental health crisis occurs, many turn to the internet to search for help and information. Because of this trend, Fitbit is updating its Search tool to integrate the AI model MUM. This will help to automatically detect personal crisis searches, ensuring relevant information pops up first.

Crisis Recourse Panels

Another way Fitbit improves smartwatch mental health is by adding Youtube crisis resource panels to the Watch Page. Youtube offers a range of video resources to help those in need, so making them easy to find will save time when searching for help. These videos address depression, substance abuse, sexual assault, and more.

Google Assitant

Similarly to searches for mental health help, Fitbit has also noted that more searches have been for “Quick meditation for anxiety.” Due to this demand, the fitness brand has ensured that Google Assistant can quickly find high-quality meditation apps and videos to help users take a break.

Relax App

Various Fitbit devices come with the Relax app, which provides deep breathing tools and an EDA sensor to help you understand your body’s reaction to stress. Once you’ve taken some deep breaths and a moment to calm yourself, the Relax app can help you improve your wellbeing through sleep adjustments, activity levels, and overall mindfulness.

The Bottom Line

Seeing a fitness brand talking candidly about mental health and wellbeing is exciting. Smartwatch mental health tools will help thousands, and we’re pleased to see Fitbit and Google putting these issues at the forefront of their practice.
