Smartwatches can improve anyone’s daily routine, but now long-haul truck drivers can take advantage of a new smartwatch, especially for them.

On the 9th of February, Garmin announced their latest release, the Instinct 2 – Dëzl Edition. This new smartwatch offers daily break timers, 24/7 health tracking, and truck plaza reward programs to ensure all professionals can take care of their health while on the job.
Whether you’re a professional long-haul driver or perhaps you often take long road trips, this watch might help you stay on top of your health while driving.

Why Do Truck Drivers Need A Smartwatch?
As drivers tend to stay seated for hours on end, they need to take extra care to get active. Long haul truckers are subject to physically demanding drives and long sedentary periods. While this lifestyle isn’t immediately dangerous, it can be if not managed well.
In the U.S., truck drivers will drive around 125,000 miles per year, up to 500 miles a day. This is a lot of sitting down and focused time. Therefore truckers must take care of their health when possible.
Garmin’s mission is to create a helpful smartwatch companion that reminds drivers to develop healthy habits when they’re on the job. This is why the Instinct 2 – Dëzl Edition will be life-changing for many drivers.
What Trucker Features Does The Garmin Watch Offer?
This Instinct device offers a range of optimized tools for truckers alongside premium smart features.
These include:
- 24/7 health monitors include stress levels, hydration, heart rate, and Pulse Ox.
- Short-break workout tutorials for on-the-road fitness.
- Fitness measures – including a pedometer, calories, workout intensity, and more.
- Daily break timers to remind drivers to stop. These are issued via watch notifications.
- PrePass notifications for any bypass decisions or U.S. weigh stations.
- Up to 28 days of battery in smartwatch mode.
Of course, the watch also features standard features such as Garmin Pay, GPS, and a rugged design. While these features are helpful, most drivers will continue to use standard GPS signals, frequently looking at a wrist when working is distracting. The key draw to this watch is the fitness features and timed breaks.
Everything a driver needs can now be found on-wrist!
Is The Instinct 2 Just For Truckers?
A common question about this launch is, “Can I benefit from the Instinct 2 if I’m not a truck driver?” and the answer is yes!
While the Dëzl Edition is specifically for truck drivers, Garmin has released various editions for all needs. These models include the Solar Tactical Edition, Surf Edition, and Camo Edition. All watches feature high-quality Garmin features, but each specialized Instinct watch has a few different tools to help its target audience.

What’s The Difference Between The Instinct & Instinct 2?
If you’re a smartwatch fan, you may have already noticed that the Instinct 2 isn’t the first Instinct model available. Garmin also offers the initial Instinct line, but what’s the difference between the two editions?
Both ranges hold up as premium smartwatches, but the critical updates on the Instinct 2 include:
- Garmin Pay
- General fitness tracking improvements
- Recovery and training effects
- VO2 max monitoring
- Software updates for the compass, altimeter, and accelerometer
Though the Instinct 2 received a range of software updates and improved fitness tools, we’d still recommend the original Instinct – especially since this is more affordable now. The Instinct Standard Edition costs $299.99, whereas the Instinct 2 Standard Edition costs $349.99.
If you want a specific feature for trucking or surfing, select the correct Edition of the Instinct watch when you purchase.
The Bottom Line
Garmin always puts its customer’s needs first. This watch is already set to be a hit amongst truck drivers. The Instinct 2 range is optimized for a range of audiences, ensuring they can make the most out of their smartwatch experience. Want to find out more?
