Apple watch 6 green light on the back of the watch

If you own an Apple Watch, you may have noticed the intermittent green light on the back of the watch. It is a normal part of how the watch functions. However, you will probably want to know what they do now if you had not noticed them before. Read on to find out more.

Why is There a Green Light on the Back of My Apple Watch?

The green lights you have noticed are there for the heart rate sensor. They are on at different times and can even be seen lighting up when you are not wearing the watch. The green light is created by an LED that detects your blood flow. This enables your heart rate to be accurately calculated.

Apple Watch takes measurements at regular intervals and can also provide them on demand. This means if you are taking your measurements more frequently, the green light will show up more frequently.

Can I Turn Off the Green Lights on my Apple Watch?

The good news is that there is no reason to worry about the green lights on your watch. They do not cause you any harm and are there solely to track your heart rate. However, you may be keen to turn them off if you do not want to track your heart rate.

If this is the case, then all you need to do is head over to the Apple Watch settings and select the Privacy button. When you get there, you will see the Health option to press. Inside this setting, you will be able to toggle the heart rate sensor off. Doing this will disable the heart rate sensor until you turn it on again. Consequently, the green light will be gone along with your heart health stats.

My Green Light Keeps Staying on – What Can I Do?

If you notice that your green light repeatedly stays on even when you take the watch off, then you will need to clear the watch of any work it is doing for you. Many people find that this issue is caused by not ending a workout before taking their watch off.

When you work out, your Apple Watch works hard to keep up to date with your stats. This gives you a clear picture of how well you performed. The best way to avoid the constant green light is to ensure the workout has been finished before you take it off; this way, you will be able to see your workout stats immediately too!

Why Should I Keep the Green Lights On?

Having a heart rate sensor as part of your watch’s makeup is a valuable tool for keeping a close eye on your heart health and fitness performance. Most people will have a resting heart rate of between 60 – 100 beats per minute, and knowing where you are on this scale can help you understand how well your heart is working.

Heart rate sensors for fitness tracking are also invaluable as they show you when you are in the fat burn zone and back in the rest zone, enabling you to get the best results from every workout. Before you go ahead with turning off the green lights, take a moment to consider how valuable it could be to know more about how well your heart is functioning.
