Get Connected With the New Fossil Gen 5 LTE – Available March 2021

Fossil Gen 5 LTE

We have to admit that we were pretty excited when we heard about the New Fossil Gen 5 LTE launch and not because it was yet another shiny smartwatch! The brand’s first foray into a watch that will work away from your phone provides you with more freedom than ever before.

You may not be surprised to learn that in many respects, it is similar to the Fossil Gen 5 but has been supped up to allow you greater connection in an easier way. However, the info on this new device is still limited as it has not yet been put on general sale, so we have shared what is available for now so that you can decide if you are interested in trying it out when it does get released. Check out our review below!

What Does the New Fossil Gen 5 LTE Look Like?

Unsurprisingly, the New Fossil Gen 5 LTE looks precisely like the Fossil Gen 5 and comes with the same casing, colouring, and Qualcomm Snapdragon 3100 chipset. It has a range of different strap choices that are easy to swap and change, allowing you to fit your mood to your watch. The silicone strap is not the highest quality we have seen, but with so many third-party strap options, you can choose the look you want without worrying.

The design is sleek and modern, but it does not scream to be noticed either- offering a timeless look that you can enjoy for many years to come. When the original model came out, we were impressed by the fact that it was speedy to respond and reliable – providing consistently good usage whenever we needed it.

As a large watch, the typical market for this new device will be those who want to see their display with ease, and at 44mm, it won’t look out of place on any gender. The watch itself is easy to navigate, and there are three buttons you can use to do this, with the centre one providing a scrolling feature.

What New Connectivity Features Come with the New Fossil Gen 5 LTE?

When we talk about connectivity, it can be easy to be confused by what we mean. Many people assume that it is a way of being connected to the world but don’t see how a smartwatch can provide that on its own.

With the New Fossil Gen 5 LTE, you can look forward to getting notifications and phone calls directly to your wrist even when your phone is not with you. Not only is this great when you forget your device, but it is also perfect for people that need to be contactable but who like to workout in the gym or go for a run. Plus, it offers a greater level of safety if you are out and about on your own.

What Fitness Features Does the New Fossil Gen 5 LTE Offer?

If you were hoping that the New Fossil Gen 5 LTE would offer a whole load of new fitness features, you would be disappointed as this area has not been changed from the original Fossil Gen 5.

However, you will be pleased to know that the watch is swim-proof with a 3ATM rating and offers access to Google Fit to get you moving when you need it the most.

The heart rate monitor, GPS, and sleep tracker will all help you to ensure that you are in top condition and allow you to track your progress over time through the range of data that the watch produces after each workout.

The companion app is straightforward to use and will enhance your use of all the features because it will provide you with the stats you need to improve on your efforts each time you workout.

How Good is the New Fossil Gen 5 LTE Battery Life?

One of the only issues with the New Fossil Gen 5 LTE and the Fossil Gen 5 is that the battery is not as great as the watch that it powers. It comes with a standard battery, but you can tweak the performance you get from it with the various battery modes available.

The only issue is that with additional connectivity comes additional battery usage, and while you can expect it to last a full day, you will need to find time to charge up every 24 hours if you want to use all the features that come as standard.

How Much Does the New Fossil Gen 5 LTE Cost?

The New Fossil Gen 5 LTE starts at around $349 and will be released for general sale from March onwards. We are informed that different versions will be made from different materials, so you can expect to pay more for premium versions if you want your new device to stand out from the crowd.

Should I Buy the New Fossil Gen 5 LTE?

When you consider that the original Fossil Gen 5 was hailed as a dependable and versatile watch, you won’t be shocked to learn that the New Fossil Gen 5 LTE is that and more! We love the fact that you can now look forward to not being weighed down by a phone when exercising and having a way to connect to others when you have forgotten your phone.

However, the price is a significant investment. We would not recommend spending out on one of these devices if you have the original version, as you will notice hardly any changes. That being said, if you are keen to have new connectivity options, then why not! Find out more when we get the full release details – we cannot wait to share them with you!

Garmin Fenix 6 vs Suunto 9

Man running in the desert

What Smartwatch is Best for Outdoor Activities?

So, Garmin vs Suunto. Which to pick? Firstly, if you’re keen to get hold of a smartwatch to track your outdoor adventures, you need one with GPS, heart rate monitor, altitude detector and a range of data collection. This can be used to improve your performance over time. Getting a watch that can do all of this, that can be comfortable to wear, and that looks the part can certainly be difficult in the saturated smartwatch market. However, we have compared the Garmin Fenix 6 with the Suunto 9 as we believe that these two watches are great choices for people who love the outdoors.

What Do the Fenix 6 and Suunto 9 Models Look Like?

The Suunto 9 is not just a good watch. It’s made from good quality materials and is easy to read with a large, clear screen. Furthermore, the buttons are simple to use and will navigate you through the watch functions with ease.

The Fenix 6 is much smaller. The screen is easy to read with important information on view at all times. The buttons aren’t as user-friendly as the Suunto. But this could be personal preference.

Comparing Suunto 9 and Garmin Fenix 6

How Comfy Are the Fenix 6 and Suunto 9 Models?

With any big watch comes the issue of comfort, and the Suunto 9 has this issue; it’s huge and is prone to get caught on things. Although, the strap is comfy, you will need to position it further up your arm than you would expect in order to use the heart rate monitor, and this means it will catch on sleeves constantly. It may look great, but it is not a comfortable wear.

The Fenix 6 is a normal size, and this certainly helps the watch to provide a great fit on your wrist. It is a snug fit that allows you to monitor your heart rate without having to move the watch and the strap is hinged so that it can fit a range of wrist sizes.

What is the Screen Like On the Fenix 6 and Suunto 9 Models?

Both watches have LCD screens that claim to be good in the outdoors. However, the screen on the Fenix 6 is far superior. It has a clear view, and this is only enhanced by the backlight function. The screen resolution is great, and you will be able to use it wherever you find yourself.

The Suunto 9 has a touch screen, but it’s not easy to use, and the slow response from the screen makes it very frustrating to use! When outside the screen is difficult to read, and if it gets wet, it is hard to use.

How Long Does the Battery Last on the Fenix 6 and Suunto 9 Models?

The battery on the Suunto is great with around a 30-hour max when using all the features it offers. Suunto claims that there is up to 120 hours of use, but this is without the GPS feature turned on. The Fenix 6 battery also offers around 30 hours of battery life with GPS on.

This means that you can look forward to a weekend trip to the outdoors without worrying about charging as long as you remember to switch the GPS off when you don’t need it!

How Good Is the User Interface On the Fenix 6 and Suunto 9 Models?

The Suunto 9 doesn’t offer much when it comes to the interface of their watch. You have very limited selections when it comes to personalising the watch face and menu. The menu itself lacks intuition and can be very clunky to use, and this is then compounded by the slow touch screen.

The Fenix 6 is fully customisable with many watch faces to choose from, and it allows you to choose the widgets that are best suited to the way you want to use the watch. The menu is easy to access, and because it is button led, it is better than the Suunto 9’s slow touch screen.

How Easy Is It to Connect the Fenix 6 and Suunto 9 Models To Phones and Computers?

Interestingly, Suunto has two different phone apps, but it is advised that you use the new Suunto app over the older Movescount app. The Suunto app looks good but doesn’t offer the data you’d want to access; for example, the watch will tell you much more about your sleep habits than the app can. It is also difficult to connect the watch to the phone and can take a lot of fiddling around to get it connected when you want to use it.

The Garmin app makes up for in information for what it lacks in design. It is not pretty like the Suunto app, but you can access a wide range of data directly from your phone whenever you want to. The watch and phone are easily connected, and it syncs without any hassle at all so that you can see your progress in real-time. You can even link the app to other third-party apps, making it easier to share your data in one go.

The Verdict

It’s clear that the Fenix 6 is the winner by a large distance! It is clear and easy to use, has many useful functions and is comfy on your wrist. It may not look as good as the Suunto 9, but what it lacks in aesthetics it makes up for with substance.

The Suunto 9 is a good looking watch with lots of promise, but the low-grade touchscreen and poor software mean that it will not track what you need when you need it. However, with a few small tweaks, this could be a smartwatch that rivals the competition.

Buying a Child’s Smartwatch? Try the Garmin Vivofit Junior 3

Garmin Vivofit Junior 3

Smartwatches are not just about adults. With the new Garmin Vivofit Junior 3, your little ones can feel part of fitness tracking too! It is a fully rebooted piece of kit that aims to get kids to engage more in being active. The great news is that it will hit the shelves in time for Christmas 2020. Furthermore, it’s a great way to end a year that has left kids wanting to explore more than ever. Take a look at our review before you make your purchase.

How Well Is the Garmin Vivofit Jr 3 Designed?

When it comes to kids smartwatches, the Garmin Vivofit Jr 3 offers a device that is built to last. It will keep going for even the most active users and offers connectivity through Bluetooth. The band is made from silicone and is adjustable as well as robust. The watch face is embedded in silicone to protect it from trips and falls. Furthermore, it can be taken in the water up to 50m deep. Meaning your child can splash, swim, and shower without having to part with it!

The Garmin Vivofit Jr 3 is suitable for children over the age of four. The wrist strap measures up to 175mm, so it will grow with your child, allowing them to get the best use out of it. It is also incredibly lightweight at 25. Those little wrists won’t get tired from wearing it all day and night, meaning fewer arguments for you when it is time to go to bed!

The screen is square and measures 14.11mm each way. This makes it clear for your child to read without having to squint. The display is color, so even in bright sunlight, the display will be easy to read.

It is also important to note that Garmin has installed an ICE screen onto the watch. This means you can put emergency contact details directly on the display for times when they need you the most. It is easy to access and means that you can feel less worried when they pop out with their friends, when they are at school or other activities that don’t include you.

How Good Is the Battery Life On the Garmin Vivofit Jr 3

Rather than offer a device that needs regular charging, Garmin went for a single cell coin battery that should last up to a year! This removes the need for additional wires and stops the frustration of having a watch run out when your child is mid-way through their day.

The only downside to this battery choice is that it will need to be replaced when it runs out. Resulting in a trip to the shops for you! However, single-cell coin batteries are cheap and easy to get hold of. Furthermore, once it is changed, you can look forward to another year of use before needing to replace it again.

Activity Tracking and Functions

With seven different activities to track, this smartwatch will keep an eye on your child’s movement and activity. Feeding back to them on how well they are doing. It tracks their steps, their activity, and even their sleep. This gives them a chance to begin understanding the impact of all three things on their life and wellbeing.

To keep your child interested, there are goals they can work towards by being active. When they hit their 60-minute target, they will be rewarded with an adventure trail that they can enjoy while using the watch to learn new and fun facts.

One great new addition is that the Vivofit Jr 3 tracks the distance your child travels every day and reports back to them on their efforts. Sadly, the ‘move’ screen has disappeared with this upgrade, meaning that your child will not be prompted to get up and go when they have been relaxing for too long.

If you are keen to get your child helping out around the house, then the companion Garmin app is a great way to organize the chores they need to and provide them with rewards when they do them. The chores you input into the app will appear on the watch face as a reminder for your child, and when they have completed them, you can issue them with virtual coins that they will save for real-world prizes you organize.

It also offers excellent safety features, providing their ICE contact on the display so that you never need to worry about being contacted when they need you the most. Why Women Need The Garmin Fenix 6S In Their Life

Garmin Fenix 6S

Women all over the world are working hard to look and feel good. With the rise of outdoor activities on offer, smartwatch companions have become invaluable. The Garmin Fenix 6S is a game-changer! It will not only help you monitor everything you do, but it will do it with ease so that you are never left in the dark about how you have performed.

How Well Is the Garmin Fenix 6S Designed?

The Fenix 6S is one model in the Fenix 6 range. The Pro, Pro Solar, and X models offer variations of the same, and some additional features. The 6S has a 42mm wide case and looks at home on any woman’s wrist. However, it has not changed much in looks from the Fenix 5 Plus. It is pretty chunky in depth, meaning that it sits away from the wrist.

Interestingly, even though it is still chunky, it does weigh less than the 5 Plus. This makes it far more comfortable to wear when you are out and about. This is a welcome change in design as it means that your wrist is less likely to become fatigued when you are out enjoying life. Because it is chunky, you get a sense of robustness when you have this watch on. It makes us feel more confident that you are unlikely to be able to break it even when you are facing extreme conditions and activities.

The screen is designed to give you as much data as possible in one glance so that you can see your progress over each day. It fits a total of eight activities on the screen so that you do not need to scroll. The screen resolution is also crystal clear. Making it easy to see in any weather, inside or outside, and there is a LED backlight for night-time use.

Does the Garmin Fenix 6S Perform Well?

If you want a watch that performs well and has a long-lasting battery life, then you are in luck. The Garmin Fenix 6S claims to last up to 48 days if it is in battery saver mode. 14 days with regular use. However, if you want to use GPS continually, then you can expect it to need charging after 36 hours.

The battery is a real asset, especially if you are not a fan of nightly charging or you need to rely on the watch to last when you are on an expedition. The good news is that when it comes to charging, it doesn’t take too long to get recharged so that you can get back to your adventures without needing to wait too long.

What Exercise Can I Track?

This watch was built to track your exercise and does so with great accuracy with its multi-sport tracking system. It covers all types of cardio exercises. Including swimming, running, hiking, and more, as well as monitoring your efforts when you are strength training too.

There is a really handy recovery feature that helps you to avoid injury and focus on giving your body the time it needs to recover after a heavy workout session. The in-built heart rate monitor works to tell you how you are doing and can even track your efforts when you are swimming, making it the all-rounder every woman needs!

It is also worth mentioning that you have access to a range of lifestyle features that will make paying for goods, listening to music, and getting notifications even easier when you are out and about.

For too long have women been missed out when it comes to tracking extreme sports, outdoor treks, and extensive exercise tracking. It is great to see a smartwatch that provides everything any woman could want without the need to compromise on features, design, or results.

Pros and Cons Of the Garmin Fenix 6S

To help with your decision, we have listed the most important pros and cons for you to consider:

Honor Magic Watch 2

Honor Magic Watch 2

Honor may not be a household name but the Huawei sub-brand’s Honor Magic Watch 2 is not their first foray into the smart market. In fact, this device is the latest in the Honor Magic series and offers a wealth of great features that make tracking your efforts easier than ever. The exciting thing about this watch is that it is the first to be delivered since Huawei was blocked from using Google and so consumers are keen to see if they have been able to produce a market contender even with this huge roadblock!

It is a fairly priced watch that was released earlier this year and offers a wide range of features. While it will not hold up against the expensive, big-name brands, this watch is a great choice for the mid-range consumer who wants to know how well their exercise efforts are going and who want accurate fitness tracking.

Is the Honor Magic Watch 2 Designed Well?

This smartwatch comes in two different size options (42mm and 46mm) and has removable straps so that you can personalise your look to suit your preference. In reality, the 46mm option offers a larger screen and a better screen resolution so that it is easier to read.

There are three strap options to choose from; black fluoroelastomer, rose gold or brown leather, and each of these options fit well and are comfortable on your wrist. The casing of the watch also comes in the same colour options and looks incredibly sleek on the wrist. You can operate the watch with the two crowns that can be found on the side of the watch, making it simple to use.

How Clear is the Display?

The screen sizes for this watch are 1.39 inches for the 46mm version and 1.2 for the 42mm version, both of which offer an AMOLED display that is clear and bright. You get a colour screen, and this has been designed to look great when you choose your watch display option from the range that is on offer.

Users are given an always-on display to make it easy to check the date and time without having to click into the phone, but this is not as bright as the regular screen, meaning that sometimes it is too dim to read.

What Fitness Tracking Comes With the Honor Magic Watch 2?

The fitness section of this watch is what really sells it, and there is a wide range of exercises that can be tracked from running to triathlon, making it great for those people that enjoy lots of different sports. You can even use it to track swimming too as it is waterproof up to 50m.

The really great thing about the 46mm version is that you can enjoy an audio companion when you are running that will coach you on the stage you are at. This coaching blasts through the loudspeaker and can be heard easily; in fact, you may even need to turn it down!

How Good is the Operating System On the Honor Magic Watch 2?

Seeing as Honor Magic 2 cannot make use of the more traditional operating systems it offers it’s own, which means you will have to learn a new system if you choose to purchase. The fitness tracking capabilities are great, but there are not as many apps to support your lifestyle as you may expect if you have used Android or iOS.

There are a range of alarms and notification type apps to use as well as sleep tracking, but if you want more than the basics, then you will need to choose a different watch altogether.

Does it have a good battery life?

The battery life is one of the best parts of owning this watch as it offers over a week of charge when you make use of all the features that come with it. If you don’t track your exercise every day, then there is the potential to make the battery last up to two weeks!

To charge the watch, you simply pop it into its charging dock and watch the battery fill back up quickly. In fact, if you plug it in when you get home from work, then you can put it back on your wrist fully charged as soon as your dinner is done; it is that simple!

Pros and Cons

With any purchase, there are a range of great things as well as some not so great features. We have listed the pros and cons below to make your decision making easier than ever!

Pros
  • Long battery life.
  • Bluetooth connection.
  • Loudspeaker for calls or workouts.
  • Microphone for making calls.
  • Always on display.
  • Running coaching comes with the 46mm version.
  • Quick and easy to charge.
Cons
  • 42mm option is not easy to read.
  • 42mm option lacks lots of features that come as standard with the 46mm version.
  • Doesn’t repel dirt well.
  • Always on display can be too dim in certain lights.
  • Distance tracked is not always accurate, depending on the exercise you are tracking.
  • Limited lifestyle apps.
  • Exercise tracking drains the battery.

Should I Buy the Honor Magic Watch 2?

This watch is a great choice for anyone who wants to track their fitness, especially if you enjoy a lot of different exercises! You can track and dissect your hard work after a workout and use this information to push yourself further each time to head to the gym. It also offers a really great battery life, so you do not have to spend every evening charging it up ready for the next day! All in all, this watch is a great choice for any fitness fan who is on a budget.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 3

Samsung Galaxy Watch 3

Samsung is a name that comes with high expectations, and their Galaxy Watch 3 is no exception! If you are looking for one of the best smartwatch experiences, then you have found it with this device. It offers a range of great features and operates with Samsung’s own operating system. It is a great companion if you have a Samsung phone, and while it is not without fault, it is a great choice for anyone that wants a device they can trust.

How Good is the Design of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3?

When you consider that this device is the upgraded version of the first Galaxy Watch and as such, you would expect it to have been refined for sale. Therefore you will not be disappointed to learn that this version is slimmer, sleeker and lighter than ever before and is more comfortable to wear.

It comes in a 41mm and a 45mm sized option so that you can decide the size you want to wear. This should not affect the running of the watch in any other way. The screen is incredibly easy to read and offers a 360 x 360 resolution. Plus with the brightness levels, you can see it in any light and weather conditions.

The 45mm version weighs in at 53.8g, and the 41mm version is 43g. Meaning that when it is on your wrist, it will not be too heavy or uncomfortable. You will also enjoy the comfort of the black leather straps that make it a great device to wear all day.

What Features Does the Samsung Galaxy 3 Watch Offer?

When it comes to features, this device is packed full of them!  You can download apps from the Tizen store and link it directly to your smartphone so that you get all your notifications as they come in. While Samsung would prefer you to use their watch with their own brand phones, they also work well with other devices such as Apple but don’t support all the functions you could use if you have a Samsung phone (replying to messages or finding your phone for example).

Samsung has also worked hard to produce a watch that accurately tracks all your fitness. There are seven activities that will track automatically, saving you the hassle of having to remember to press start and stop. You can also use it to track up to forty other activities depending on what you are interested in. The tracking is highly accurate and gives you feedback that you can use to monitor progress and target set for future exercise.

What is the Battery Life Like on the Samsung Galaxy 3 Watch?

The battery life of this watch has become a real talking point because the company decided to reduce the battery life in order to slim down the watch. The result is that it will only run for two to three days before needing to charge. If you exercise frequently or use the GPS a lot, you will find that you may even need to charge the watch daily to ensure that you don’t run out halfway through the day.

The battery life is not an issue if you have access to power and remember to plug it in each day, but if you wanted something that would last longer between charges, then this is probably not the device for you.

Is the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 Good Value for Money?

When it comes to purchasing this watch outright, it’s not too expensive for all the great features that are on offer. However, if you want to be able to use it with your phone, you will also need to factor in a monthly contract.

Many providers will now sell smartwatches on contracts like mobile phones, so it is well worth shopping around to get the best deal before you part with your money.
