Suppose you’re looking for an unusual, discreet fitness tracker that takes a different shape from a classic bracelet/smartwatch design. In that case, the Oura Ring could be an ideal choice for you. This intelligent smart ring tracks a range of statistics effectively and boasts a sleek and attractive appearance. However, before you make a final decision, we’re going to look at some of the issues that have been raised around the Oura Ring battery life.
It can even track your sleep efficiently, revealing information about your wakeful periods and sleep stages and tracking your temperature and heart rate so you can see how rested you really are. It even reveals your physical activity time, calories burned, number of steps taken, and more. The companion app allows you to interpret all this information.
In short, there is a lot to like about the Oura Ring. However, there’s one potential issue – the battery life issues that some users have reported.
The Battery Of The Oura Ring
The only component of the Oura Ring that can wear out is its battery. The 22mAh lipo battery is non-replaceable, and once it has completely worn down, your ring will no longer work. Its battery life is advertised as being between 4 and 7 days, but this only applies when your device is new. Over the years, the lifespan will reduce, and recharging more frequently will be necessary.

Preserving The Battery Life
Since the Oura Ring’s battery is irreplaceable, keeping it in good condition is vital. The best way to achieve this is to avoid fully draining the battery or leaving it drained out for a long period of time. It’s equally important not to leave the battery fully charged for extended periods.
Charging your ring properly prolongs its useful lifespan and reduces the issues that are commonly experienced. If you care properly for your battery, it will have a useful lifespan of 2 or 3 years as a minimum. Here are some top tips to help prevent battery damage in the long term.
Don’t…
- leave the ring on charge for longer than a week. If you keep the ring on charge while it’s already at its maximum capacity for extended periods, its battery life will be substantially reduced.
- allow your device to be exposed to either hot or freezing extreme temperatures for long periods, as it can cause damage to the cells in the lipo batteries.
- allow the ring’s battery to drop to 0%, as this affects the battery’s lifespan and overall performance.
- connect the USB charging power cord to any external supply that doesn’t comply with IEC 62368-1 standards. The power supply to the device shouldn’t exceed 15 watts after three seconds.
What Can Be Expected From The Oura Ring’s Battery?
Different sizes of Oura Ring have a battery capacity that differs slightly between 15mAh and 22mAh. The length of time the battery will last will, therefore, also vary. Other factors come into play concerning this, too, such as the ring’s age, whether you nap during the day, and how frequently you use its daytime features.
Suppose you regularly use features like the Live Heart Rate, SpO2 tracker, or meditation sessions. In that case, the battery will drain more quickly since the ring will actively collect data from its temperature sensors and LED.

What Happens To The Battery If You Stop Wearing The Ring?
There may come a time when you don’t want to wear your Oura Ring all the time. If you’re going to take a break, it’s best to put the ring into Power Saving Mode and then store it away. That will keep the battery’s capacity from worsening. If you keep the battery in an incorrect state, the battery’s lifespan will be decreased drastically.
The Battery Warranty On The Oura Ring
Rechargeable batteries in devices are always considered to be consumables, and they always have a limit on their lifespan. Therefore, their performance and capacity always decline gradually over time. For this reason, battery replacement won’t be included in the Oura Ring’s standard warranty policy.
The Battery Drain Problems Reported By Users
Although the Oura Ring offers a host of excellent benefits for users, one problem has been reported relatively frequently. At first, this problem won’t arise, but after using it in the long term, you may notice that the Oura Ring battery life appears to drain too rapidly.

Overall I really like the Oura ring. My main concern is sleep cycle and I gather it is the best fitness tracker in this facet. However, the battery cannot be replaced. The expected life is 2-3 years which means in the worse case every other year you are replacing the ring. My ring is a little over a year old and the charge will not last 24 hours. I usually charge it when I get up in the morning and need to charge it again before I go to bed or it does not last the night. When it gets to low charge overnight you get no sleep readings at all.
