If you’re out running or just wandering around, the Spotify app on the Apple Watch eliminates the need to have your iPhone by your side. Apple Watch customers can even do more than simply stop and skip tracks. They can create custom playlists and connect to Spotify and manage to play independently from their iPhone over Wi-Fi or LTE.

If you’re new to Spotify on the Apple Watch, we’ll walk you through the basics. And how to download and save Spotify sounds for offline listening.
Firstly, how do you get Spotify on your Apple Watch?
Always ensure you have the latest version of the Spotify app, follow the instructions below. It works for both free and premium users, but you must have the Spotify smartphone app loaded (and be logged in) to utilize it.
You must also have an iPhone running iOS 10 and above. Plus, an Apple Watch running a minimum of watchOS 4.
1. On your iPhone, launch the Apple Watch app
2. Check if Spotify is installed on your Apple Watch under the ‘My Watch’ menu. It’ll be under the title ‘Installed on Apple Watch.’

OK, now to the good stuff. Here’s how to use Spotify on your Apple Watch.
1. Control the music that is being played on the speakers (and more)
You can pause, skip forward/backward through the music playing on the Apple Watch. This is true whether you’re playing music on your iPhone, Bluetooth speakers, or the Spotify app on your gaming console. This is accomplished using Spotify Connect.
To utilize Spotify Connect to manage music from an Apple Watch on multiple devices, follow these steps:
On your iPhone, laptop, or tablet, ensure you have the most recent version of Spotify installed.
You may add supported Spotify Connect devices from the Spotify app.
To allow this control from an Apple Watch, ensure both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
2. Apple Watch Spotify playlists
It’s a feature that Spotify customers have been requesting for a long time, and it’s now here. You can now download Spotify material to your Apple Watch, allowing you to listen to it on the go without your iPhone or using LTE. Make sure you have an Apple Watch Series 3 at least, operating on watchOS 6 or later. Plus, you’ll need either LTE or Wi-Fi and a Spotify Premium membership.
To download songs and playlists to your Apple Watch on a local basis, follow these steps:
First and foremost, make sure you have the most recent version of the Spotify app on your iPhone or iPad. This will ensure that the Watch app is also up to date during the process.
Swipe right to reveal the Spotify Apple Watch app and search for a playlist you wish to download.
When you’ve found what you wanted, tap the three dots on the screen, and you’ll be offered the choice to save it to your Apple Watch.
When you’ve found what you wanted, tap the three dots on the screen, and you’ll be offered the choice to save it to your Apple Watch.
Downloaded playlists will be identified by a green arrow indicating that they are currently on your Apple Watch.
Spotify’s offline support option is being progressively rolled out; therefore, it’s possible that it hasn’t yet been released in your area if you don’t see it yet. But at the very least, you now know how to work it out when it is.
3. Take a look at the playlists and tracks
It may surprise you, but the Spotify Apple Watch app gives you a lot of control over music selection and playback right from your wrist.
A swipe to the left reveals your Library and recent Spotify playlists with which you’ve engaged. Then you may modify the playlist by scrolling with your fingertip or turning the digital crown from here.
Additionally, you can also go to Library and switch between playlists, podcasts, artists, and albums and browse choices inside them and play any tune you choose. You won’t get all of your selections in your library, though you will receive a long list of the 20 or so most recently played.
Swipe right to see a list of music in the currently chosen playlist, allowing you to pick the specific song you wish to listen to. There’s no end to it.
4. Add music to your Spotify playlists
From the Apple Watch itself, you can add songs to your library. When you tap the heart icon, the tune will be saved to your music collection. Simply browse your Spotify library’s Songs list to recover it.
5. Untethered music streaming
Spotify allows you to listen to music without having to use your iPhone. This effectively provides the same capabilities as the previous option but will enable you to listen to music while running without taking your iPhone with you.
Users will be asked if they wish to stream music from their iPhone to their Apple Watch. To make it function, you’ll need a cellular or Wi-Fi connection.
6. Request a song from Siri
Spotify now offers hands-free control via Siri, Apple’s smart assistant, allowing you to ask Siri to take over when you can’t get your fingers on the Watch screen.
Just say ‘Hey, Siri’ to get Siri to play anything from your Apple Watch, and then ask it to do one of the following things:
Play music, playlists, podcasts, artists, and albums that you enjoy.
Volume may be adjusted, tracks may be played/paused, and songs can be skipped.
Listen to your Discover Weekly playlist and “like” the song that is now playing.
