Strap or Band? The Whoop Strap 4.0 Vs Fitbit Charge 5

By Brittany Collens. Updated: Nov 3, 2022

Getting your fitness analytics back is becoming more and more detailed. With several brands to choose from, unlimited options are becoming available from the different lines within the brands themselves. Two of the biggest competitors are Whoop and Fitbit. The Whoop has become a fan favorite for professional athletes while Fitbit has been in the game since the very beginning.

With the Charge 5 being a relatively new contender many want to know how it compares to the latest Whoop 4. And we are here to tell you.

Whoop Strap 4.0

Physical Appearance

Regarding how the two look there are some notable differences to take in. While they both are lightweight and comfortable to wear on your wrist, the Fitbit has some advantages in some areas and some takebacks in others.

Whoop 4.0

The Whoop for starters is traditionally worn on your wrist. But with the ability to unstrap the band you can also buy accessories and clothing to place it elsewhere. It also comes faceless for a few different reasons. Here are the main pointers we need to consider.

  • Wear your Whoop anywhere. Insert in sports bras or as a sleeve around your bicep with the Whoop Anywhere line. This is to bring metrics from all over your body for more accurate readings.
  • Whoop has a lightweight fit featuring many different band straps to choose from. This includes both material and color/design variation.
  • Whoop comes faceless which allows professional athletes to compete with it. As opposed to screens which are illegal to compete with many professional sports.

The Fitbit Charge 5 has the notable difference of having a pretty screen so you can see what’s going on in real-time without having to bring your phone along with you. Let’s take a look.

  • Has a wonderful AMOLED screen display making it both a touch screen and vibrant to look at. This makes seeing things outdoors incredibly easy.
  • With an upgrade to fit, the new charge is extremely lightweight and hardly noticeable yet the display size is big enough to easily swipe to whatever metric you need.
  • The new bands do not irritate the skin as past bands have been reported to do so.

Metrics That Matter

So what really matters is performance. And both of them perform incredibly well. But when looking at them side by side, there are some noticeable differences and similarities.

Initial Evaluations

Both the Whoop and Fitbit Charge 5 offer you a number in the morning that lets you know how your body is recovered. The Whoop refers to this as the Recovery Score while the Charge calls it your Readiness Score. Both rely on metrics such as sleep and the quality of your sleep to calculate this.

Whoop however takes it a few steps further by having more intense sensors to take in your body temperature, different heart rate metrics, your baseline of performance, and so much more. These types of details is where whoop thrives.

One of the noticeable differences is that Fitbit actually has an ECG sensor to take FDA-cleared measurements on heart rate. The Whoop can also take your heart rate variability, resting HR, and the respiratory rate which has been useful in tracking COVID symptoms.

Charge 5 or the Whoop 4.0 for Sports

The Whoop and Fitbit offer their fair share of activities that you can track both online and offline. Whoop also offers a number of other activities that play into recovery like ice baths, naps, and compression therapy.

Take advantage of the screen with Fitbit. You can engage in programs like Stress Management and breathe with your smartwatch. And when you are trying to sweat, you’ll have more than 20 activities to choose from.

Whoop Strap 4.0
Battery

When it comes to battery, the last thing anyone wants is to have their watch die in the middle of the workout. Or just having to charge the device again and again. It makes it hard to stay consistent with tracking in the first place. Here is how the two compare.

  • The Whoop 4.0 comes with a separate battery pack that is now battery-proof. That makes charging infinitely more convenient. When the Whoop strap is fully charged it will last your five days.
  • The Charge 5 has a battery life of up to 4 days without using the GPS. If you leave the GPS on the watch will last for up to 4 hours. If you have the Ionic you can depend on 10 hours.

Pricing

The Fitbit Charge 5 costs $179.95 and has a 45-day return policy. The Whoop operates a little differently. The Whoop is based on a monthly subscription of $30 a month.

Overall Conclusion – Whoop Vs Charge 5

Trying to figure out which fitness tracker is best for you means taking an internal look at your fitness goals and lifestyle habits. For those that are serious athletes such as fitness professionals, the Whoop becomes a better option. The statistics that come in weekly and monthly reports can be broken down into small details that make a major impact on performance.

But for the fitness junkie that does their workouts outside of their 9-5 may appreciate having a smartwatch that also can send push notifications. Whoop also has a larger commitment being a subscription option whereas Fitbit is a one-time purchase unless of course, you want in-depth health information and history which is enabled with the Fitbit Premium subscription.

Based on your lifestyle one may make a more obvious choice over the other.
