Fitness wearables have dominated the market for quite some time now. With new technology and data constantly updating, it’s easy to get excited, especially when an OG like Fitbit released a new subscription service in September of 2019 called Fitbit Premium.
The Fitbit Premium service came out just before the pandemic erupted and currently offers a monthly subscription rate like a lot of other wearables on the market. But committing to a subscription takes guts, so we are breaking down the services and what to expect.
Price Range and Free Trial
Most reviews will sell you on the services and then get you with the price at the end. That’s why we are straight up, so there is no kicker. It’s $9.99 a month or $80.00 per year, saving users just under $40 for the full year commitment.
But with a new service, users may not feel like they want to commit for an entire year or even one month. That’s why Fitbit offers the following.
A free 90-day free trial was originally launched during the pandemic but is still available today.
What’s Included in the Fitbit Premium?
So, now that we have prices out of the way, what do you get with the Fitbit Premium?
- Workouts
- Health and Fitness Stats
- Mindfullness Guides
- Guided Programs
- Advanced Insights and Premium Challenges
You may already be thinking, wow, that’s a lot. And it is, there is a significant difference between owning just a regular Fitbit and subscribing to their premium subscription service.
Let’s break down what’s included.
Workouts
Working out is a battle if you don’t know what to do. Worse, you know what to do, but are sick and tired of it. Fitbit Premium recognizes this, which is why you can choose from many workouts offered by their partners.
Feeling like you want to try Barre for the first time? No problem, head over to barre3 and choose your difficulty. You can also get your dance on by hanging out with Popsugar Dance instructors.
Some of their partners include:
- Barre3
- Popsugar
- Daily Burn
- Yoga Studio
With this, you can constantly mix up your workout and choose your degree of difficulty, so you get exactly what you need! Feeling like doing an ab workout? No problem! HIIT more your thing? Easy. They have it all based on categories too.
Health and Fitness Stats
Stats are what users care about the most, so we would be concerned if it didn’t offer some good ones. When it comes to Fitbit Premium, you can count on them to track the types of activities you do, sleep scores, calories, steps, and more.
Something unique about the stats offered from Premium is that it even detects snoring during your sleep stages. This helps determine the quality of sleep as interrupted sleep occurs frequently.
Mindfullness Guides
With the pandemic creating a lot of uncertainty and anxiety, meditation and being mindful certainly took off. But it’s a lot of practice which is why Fitbit now offers guides on mindful eating, mindfulness with the body, and audio tracks for destressing and calming oneself.
Guided Programs
Being healthy means having a healthy mind, getting active, fueling your body, and getting rest. That’s why this program talks about all these areas and gives you good tips on improving your sleep and knowing when your body needs fuel.
These programs let you not only practice the work but really understand the methodology behind how to make overall life improvements to your health.
Advanced Insights and Premium Challenges
All the insights included on the original Fitbit bands are available in Premium. The difference is that the Premium subscription offers much more detail. For instance, instead of an overall sleep score, you get a breakdown of the differences in your sleep activity.
Fitbit Sense owners will get a Stress Management score and ways to improve that score based on the other statistics like sleep, activity, etc. They also let nutrition play a role in this and work with those with chronic illnesses to continually improve their quality of health.
Challenges
Fitbit Premium offers a few more challenges that are traditionally offered to Fitbit users. For instance, Fitbit Premium Bingo is up for grabs. These are just additional motivators and ways to challenge your friends to meet their goals as you are going for yours.
Family Plans
Unfortunately, Fitbit Premium is only available per person however family plans similar to those offered by Spotify and Apple are being considered.
What Bands Work with Fitbit Premium?
All of the Fitbit bands work with the Fitbit Premium subscription. Because the Premium Subscription works off of the app, you don’t need a specific Fitbit band.
Your Fitbit band will automatically sync up via Bluetooth to the app as it does now. You will just be offered better insights than before through the app. You do, however, specifically need a Fitbit for this to work with the app.
It does not pair with any wearable device such as an Apple Watch.
The Verdict?
So, is the Fitbit Premium worth it? Considering all the extra information you are getting, like the quality of your sleep, mindfulness guides, health guides, and more, it seems like it’s a no-brainer for anyone who is already a Fitbit lover.
The best way to approach it is to get on board with their 90-day trial now. If you like what you are getting, choose the year as it saves you a significant amount of money.
If you aren’t super in love with Fitbit and are looking for even more advanced stats than they currently offer, you are better off checking the Whoop 4.0, Oura Ring, or even the Apple Watch.
