If the two watches didn’t have anything in common, we would be concerned if the SE was even an Apple Watch at all. But the two do have similarities and arguably some of the most important ones.

Functionality

When it comes to how the watches operate and function., there are some key similarities. that we can touch on here.

• Despite the different sizes in casing, both of these Apple watches can fit with any band or wrist strap sold by the apple store.
• Both watches function on the same 18-hour battery life (though the Series 7 charges faster).
• Both watches have the ability to add on GPS, run on WIFI, or add celluar data 4G with their serivce provider.
• Both watches come in a variety of color options to choose from regardless of the finish.

Software

Both watches run under the same Wear OS8 software, meaning that both watches will function the same in terms of mirroring notifications from the iPhone and having access to the same apps.

However, this doesn’t mean that there aren’t some differences in what’s included with the Apple Watch Series 7. As noted, they have a bit more health functions than the SE.

The software, in terms of speed, security, and user interface, remains the same. This is important because if the Apple Watch Series 7 ran on better software, the decision would be far too easy.

Apps

Because the software running is no different, you will have access to the same apps and app store. This is huge because while the Watch Series 7 has a few more health stats, you may find enhancers through apps about stats you care more about.

While the two watches appear to be similar, quite a few differences make the price difference understandable. From the durability to the size of the screen.

Design

We can probably pick up on a few things with just our own eyes in terms of design. For starters, the Apple Watch Series 7 took an upgrade in its size offerings. Now you can get it for 41mm and 45mm as opposed to the Apple Watch SE at 40mm and 44mm.

While it was anticipated for the Series 7 to have flat edges, we found the edges to be rounder and curvier than ever. This is a noticeable distinction between previous versions.

Most importantly, Apple decided to make better use of their screen by taking the borders of and making the overall picture 20% bigger without actually enlarging the casing.

Other Notable Differences

While both watches seem pretty similar, there are still some noticeable things when it comes to the Apple Watch 7 versus the Apple Watch SE. Let’s check them out.

• The new Apple Watch Series 7 has a tougher glass making it less likely to scratch or break.
• As mentioned the Apple Watch Series 7 charges 33% faster and can get from 0-80% charged in just 45 minutes.
• If you want to order a stainless steel or titanium finish you will ahve to opt for the Apple Watch Series 7 as it is the only one in it’s line to do so.
• While not nescsarily a major difference the S7 chup used tor the Series 7 resulted in a small performance improcement over the S5 despite both running on WatchOS8.
• Apple Watch 7 has the “Always On” function. As opposed to the screen turning off when lowering your wrist or tapping it to turn on, it just dims and brightens.
• Apple Watch Series 7 includes a mindfulness app not included on the Apple Watch SE.

Apple Watch 7 vs SE – Who Wins?

It’s a tough call between the Apple Watch 7 vs SE because they are similar enough to make you want to go for the cheaper option. The differences, however, are the ones we care about most.

Faster charging along with a 20% bigger display screen may just be worth the splurge. But if you don’t care for ECG and blood oxygen reading, the decision becomes hard again.

The truth is both Apple Watches are excellent. What it comes down to is what you specifically need in the details. Since both have the same access to apps and use the WatchOS8 software, the decision really is personal.
