If you love adventure and want to find a companion watch that can support your passion, you will be spoiled for choice! With devices for all different needs and special features dropping all the time, it can be a difficult choice. We took a look at the Coros Vertix 2 to find out whether it has the capabilities to impress even the most experienced adventurers.
How Well is the Coros Vertix 2 Designed?
The Coros Vertix 2 is a statement watch that is rugged and outdoorsy, weighing in at 89g. It has scratch-resistant sapphire glass, as well as a titanium casing that offers the strength you need when you are out on an adventure. The strap is made from orange silicone, and the device comes with a huge 51mm display, meaning that only wearers with really big wrists will get the most benefit from it!
The watch comes in its own flight case that adds an extra protection level when traveling without the device on your wrist. The Coros Vertix 2 is waterproof to 100m and can withstand temperatures as low as -30 Celsius. It also comes with GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, QZSS, and Beidou that will give you ultimate, pin-point accuracy wherever you are in the world.
The watch face has a rotational dial that gives you access to the watch and two other buttons; one dims the screen, and the other supports navigation. However, if you are looking for an ANT+ connectivity capability, you will not find one on this device.
What Features Does the Coros Vertix 2 Offer?
In terms of the features that come with the watch, you can look forward to an ABC system, accelerometer, thermometer, Sp02 counter, heart rate sensor, gyroscope, and ECG! This long list of features is good for health tracking and helps you get the most accurate feedback for your analysis.
There are over 25 different activity modes available for tracking, including a wide range of outdoor and water sports. You can use the watch to track your progress, and there is the option to take a break during your exercise without stopping and starting a new tracking data set. While clearly designed for the outdoor adventurer, there are many options for anyone who enjoys the gym!
To get to all your data, you will need to download the Vertix 2 companion app onto your smart devices, such as your phone or tablet. When you first enter the app, you will see all your basic data on the front page, including your step count, sleep data, heart rate, and more.
Once you have accessed your basic data, you can navigate the app to find the Coros EvoLab, personalization page for watch faces, notification setting page, and GTX file uploads. Each stream of data can be used to update other third-party apps that you choose to help you make the most of your efforts.
The other big part of Coros Vertix 2 is the offline mapping options that are available. If you love mountain sports or snow sports, then you will find all the maps you could ever need to help you plan your route. The only downside is that the maps are pretty basic and don’t offer any labels or navigational tools to make your life easier. However, you can zoom in and out to get a sense of where you are.
How Good is the Battery Life?
The Coros Vertix 2 really does excel when it comes to battery life! It comes with up to 140 hours of charge when in GPS mode, allowing you to track for days without worrying about powering up your device. There are three different modes in which you can use the battery – standard, all systems on and all systems, and Duel FREQ on. It’s the standard GPS version that offers 140 hours of charge which reduces to 90 hours for the all systems and 50 hours for the all systems and duel FREQ.
If you want more life, then there is an UltraMax mode that can give you 240 hours of support by only turning on the GPS for a short time every two minutes. When you consider how many different options you have, you can be sure that your trip away will be possible without finding a charger every night!
The watch comes with its own proprietary charger, which some may find annoying, especially if you are unlucky enough to lose it. However, they are easy to replace, and purchasing a spare may be the best way to avoid stress later.
