KIPRUN Users Urged To Return Smartwatches

By Isobel Coughlan. Updated: Mar 25, 2022

Getting hot while working out is great, but no one wants their smartwatch to overheat and pose a burning risk. Unfortunately, Decathlon’s KIPRUN GPS 500 and KIPRUN GPS 550 are being recalled due to potential overheating risks.

Kiprun 500 and 550 being recalled due to safety concerns

KIPRUN users should avoid using their watch as it could result in a possible fire or burns.

If you own a KIPRUN watch, make sure you keep reading. We’ve got all the information you need to get your money back and avoid a smartwatch accident.

Scroll to find more.

What’s The Problem?

The issue with the KIPRUN range was identified during a routine quality check. Essentially, experts have determined that the battery in these smartwatches runs the risk of overheating, and this can cause subsequent burns and potential fires.

Of course, Decathlon wants its customers to be as safe as possible, and this recall is just a precaution. However, KIPRUN users must take this recall seriously to avoid any potential harm.

Any watches purchased from August 2019 should be returned as soon as possible. Once returned to a Decathlon store, users will receive a full refund to compensate for the trouble.

If you purchased a KIPRUN wearable and want to talk to a Decathlon team member, you can contact them online here.

Smartwatches On Fire

This news might sound familiar to some. On March 2nd Fitbit also announced the recall of their Fitbit Ionic model due to overheating and burn concerns.

Fitbit urged users to return any Ionic watches from 2017 to 2020 as there have been several incidents of burns and injuries.

There was a subsequent investigation into these wearables, and Fitbit found a slight chance of the Ionic battery overheating. Due to these findings, Fitbit placed its user’s safety first and urged all products to be returned.

Are There Any KIPRUN Alternatives?

The KIPRUN is a popular running smartwatch with training sessions, health metrics, and GPS. If you suddenly need a replacement smartwatch, don’t worry! Many running smartwatches have glowing reviews.

Possible alternatives include:

  • Garmin Forerunner Range – We suggest trying a watch from the Forerunner range if you want to spend a little more on your KIPRUN replacement. These popular smartwatches are optimized for running sports, and users are always pleased with the accuracy of their data.
  • Mi Band 6 – If you’d instead opt for a budget option, the Mi Band 6 is a popular choice. This wearable comes with all of the standard fitness trackers, health metrics, and intelligent features. However, it lacks a hefty price tag. Not only that, but it’s flexible and offers a sleek design.

The Takeaway

Though it’s frustrating to have to send your smartwatch back, it’ll keep you safe, and you’ll avoid any unwanted accidents. If you’re a KIPRUN user, take this chance to embrace a new smartwatch and see how your workouts improve.
