Xiaomi Mi Band 6 – Everything You Need to Know

By Emma Morris. Updated: Jan 12, 2022

Following the unveiling of the Xiaomi Mi Band 6, here’s everything you need to know. From the design, the specs, price and when you can get your hands on one.

With a bigger screen and more workout modes, this fitness band can undoubtedly compete with the wearable world’s other giants.

Design

Mi Band 6 VS 5

Firstly, as we mentioned above, the screen is much bigger than its predecessor. In fact, it’s a whopping 50% bigger. The 1.56-inch AMOLED screen also has double the resolution at 52 x 486. Furthermore, the 326PPI display exceeds the likes of Fitbit and easily competes with some of the Samsung offerings.

The overall look of the Mi Band 6 really hasn’t changed much in comparison to earlier versions, but then why change something that works? At 47 x 18 mm, it is slimline and has an adjustable, pin-hole strap from 155 – 219 mm. Colours available currently include black, orange, yellow, olive, ivory and blue. One bonus, if you already have the Mi Band 5 and want to upgrade, your bands will also fit the newest version, so you won’t have to replace these.

There are more than 100 different watch faces to choose from; however, less than 10% of these are customisable. But then with so many to choose from, you are sure to find something that suits your needs.

Mi Band 6 Fitness Tracking

As we have already said, there are now over 30 workouts included, more than double the offering on the Mi Band 5 and an added blood oxygen sensor.

It’s capable of auto-detecting 6 routine activities. These include running, walking, cycling and rowing. The Mi Band 6 also features more niche activities such as Zumba, Dance, Badminton, and Kickboxing. For these, you will need to find them and hit start manually. It is also safe to take swimming with a 5ATM rating.

As you would expect from a fitness tracker, it will track basic data such as steps taken, calories burned, distance travelled, heart rate and sleep. Unfortunately, there is no onboard GPS, so you will need to have your phone with you whilst you exercise.

Heart rate tracking has also had an upgrade. You can now automatically track your heart rate at 1, 5, 10 or 30-minute intervals for super-accurate data. However, bear in mind that the more frequently the tracker does this, the quicker you will blow through the battery life.

Especially for ladies, menstruation cycle tracking is available. Once enabled, can provide you with your cycle and estimated fertile and ovulation times. Unfortunately, there is no option to track mood or symptoms.

As with many wearable devices recently, wellbeing is another feature often included. The Mi Band 6 is no different and offers sleep tracking, stress monitoring and breathing exercises to help you develop those mindfulness skills.

Inside the Mi Band 6

The Mi Band 6 is both Android 5.0 above and iOS 10 and above compatible and includes the following sensors:

  • PPG heart rate sensor
  • SpO2 sensor
  • Accelerometer sensor
  • Gyroscope sensor

The 125mAh battery offers a promising 14-days of life on basic use; however, this depends on the features used and how often you are using them. Powering up is quick and straightforward using magnetic charging.

Unsurprisingly given the price of this device, there are few smartwatch features. Whilst you can receive basic notifications, they are not easy to see on the screen and can not be interacted with. It does have some basic tools such as an alarm, timer, event log, stopwatch and a “find my device” app. You can also control your camera and smartphone music from the Mi Band 6.

For additional interaction, the MI Band 6 is compatible with the Mi Wear and Mi Fit app.

Mi Band 6 Release and Price

The Mi Band 6 is available as of April 2021, which is earlier than Xiaomi typically releases their fitness trackers. The price is around $60 depending on where you get it from.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a basic fitness tracker for everyday use, then the Mi Band 6 is perfect. It’s budget-friendly, offers various workouts and health tracking features and looks great on your wrist. However, if you are serious about training or want more smartwatch features, you may need to look at something slightly different. Check out the Apple Watch 6 for all the features you could want or the latest addition to the G-Shock range if fitness is your focus.
