We have to admit that we were pretty excited when we heard about the New Fossil Gen 5 LTE launch and not because it was yet another shiny smartwatch! The brand’s first foray into a watch that will work away from your phone provides you with more freedom than ever before.
You may not be surprised to learn that in many respects, it is similar to the Fossil Gen 5 but has been supped up to allow you greater connection in an easier way. However, the info on this new device is still limited as it has not yet been put on general sale, so we have shared what is available for now so that you can decide if you are interested in trying it out when it does get released. Check out our review below!
What Does the New Fossil Gen 5 LTE Look Like?
Unsurprisingly, the New Fossil Gen 5 LTE looks precisely like the Fossil Gen 5 and comes with the same casing, colouring, and Qualcomm Snapdragon 3100 chipset. It has a range of different strap choices that are easy to swap and change, allowing you to fit your mood to your watch. The silicone strap is not the highest quality we have seen, but with so many third-party strap options, you can choose the look you want without worrying.
The design is sleek and modern, but it does not scream to be noticed either- offering a timeless look that you can enjoy for many years to come. When the original model came out, we were impressed by the fact that it was speedy to respond and reliable – providing consistently good usage whenever we needed it.
As a large watch, the typical market for this new device will be those who want to see their display with ease, and at 44mm, it won’t look out of place on any gender. The watch itself is easy to navigate, and there are three buttons you can use to do this, with the centre one providing a scrolling feature.
What New Connectivity Features Come with the New Fossil Gen 5 LTE?
When we talk about connectivity, it can be easy to be confused by what we mean. Many people assume that it is a way of being connected to the world but don’t see how a smartwatch can provide that on its own.
With the New Fossil Gen 5 LTE, you can look forward to getting notifications and phone calls directly to your wrist even when your phone is not with you. Not only is this great when you forget your device, but it is also perfect for people that need to be contactable but who like to workout in the gym or go for a run. Plus, it offers a greater level of safety if you are out and about on your own.
What Fitness Features Does the New Fossil Gen 5 LTE Offer?
If you were hoping that the New Fossil Gen 5 LTE would offer a whole load of new fitness features, you would be disappointed as this area has not been changed from the original Fossil Gen 5.
However, you will be pleased to know that the watch is swim-proof with a 3ATM rating and offers access to Google Fit to get you moving when you need it the most.
The heart rate monitor, GPS, and sleep tracker will all help you to ensure that you are in top condition and allow you to track your progress over time through the range of data that the watch produces after each workout.
The companion app is straightforward to use and will enhance your use of all the features because it will provide you with the stats you need to improve on your efforts each time you workout.
How Good is the New Fossil Gen 5 LTE Battery Life?
One of the only issues with the New Fossil Gen 5 LTE and the Fossil Gen 5 is that the battery is not as great as the watch that it powers. It comes with a standard battery, but you can tweak the performance you get from it with the various battery modes available.
The only issue is that with additional connectivity comes additional battery usage, and while you can expect it to last a full day, you will need to find time to charge up every 24 hours if you want to use all the features that come as standard.
How Much Does the New Fossil Gen 5 LTE Cost?
The New Fossil Gen 5 LTE starts at around $349 and will be released for general sale from March onwards. We are informed that different versions will be made from different materials, so you can expect to pay more for premium versions if you want your new device to stand out from the crowd.
Should I Buy the New Fossil Gen 5 LTE?
When you consider that the original Fossil Gen 5 was hailed as a dependable and versatile watch, you won’t be shocked to learn that the New Fossil Gen 5 LTE is that and more! We love the fact that you can now look forward to not being weighed down by a phone when exercising and having a way to connect to others when you have forgotten your phone.
However, the price is a significant investment. We would not recommend spending out on one of these devices if you have the original version, as you will notice hardly any changes. That being said, if you are keen to have new connectivity options, then why not! Find out more when we get the full release details – we cannot wait to share them with you!
