When was the Official Announcement for the Fitbit Sense 2?
The first announcement of the Fitbit Sense 2 occurred in late August, letting fans know the watch would be available in September 2022.
The Fitbit Sense 2 hit the market on September 29th, 2022 – approximately two years after the initial Sense release. This has been a long-awaited launch, and we’re glad the wearable is finally here. Curious smartwatch users can purchase this watch online today.
How Much Does the New Fitbit Cost?
Price is a key factor for all smartwatches, so how much will customers have to pay for this new wearable?
The Fitbit Sense 2 costs $299.95 or £269.99, and users can purchase this watch via the Fitbit website. The wearable comes with a variety of straps and color options, and you might have to pay more for premium straps.
What Does the New Fitbit Look Like?
Fitbit is a tried and trusted brand that tends to stick to similar designs so that consumers feel safe when they purchase. With this in mind, we didn’t expect a vast difference in the new device compared to the older version.
As expected, the Sense 2 comes with a rounded circle (aka squircle) case shape. This sleek design is an enduring favorite, and we’re not surprised that it hasn’t been changed.
The main body of the watch is slimmer than the previous option – great news for anyone who wants a thinner accessory. The dimensions of the Fitbit Sense 2 are 40.5 x 40.5 x 12.3mm, and the body is made from aluminum.
Though this watch is slimmer, there are still sensors on the back – including an optical heart rate sensor. These tools sit flush with the body, ensuring comfort while you wear the watch.
Users can purchase the watch in these color options:
- Lunar White/Platinum
- Blue Mist/Soft Gold
- Shadow Gray/Graphite

What Operating System Does the New Fitbit Sense 2 Offer?
One of the most speculated decisions was whether Fitbit will stick with FitbitOS or opt for Wear OS in their new devices. The Fitbit system is the standard choice for all current models. However, it does come with some niggles that put people off from buying the more expensive models.
As predicted, the Fitbit Sense 2 uses FitbitOS – not WearOS. While this might disappoint some users, it will make using the watch easier for previous Fitbit users. No getting used to new systems here!
The FitbitOS operating system continues to use the standard“swipe” system. This allows users to swipe left to right to see daily stats, alarms, and other widgets. Users can also swipe up to see notifications and settings.
If you’re keen to try the latest WearOS system, you might want to explore the Google Pixel Watch…
What Features Does the New Fitbit Sense 2 Offer?
Investing in a new smartwatch is often a decision based on the new features that the company offers, which is certainly true for Fitbit. To impress a consumer, the company will need to provide a range of impressive features.
So, what’s on the menu for new users?
Key features of the Fitbit Sense include:
- ECG/Electrocardiograms
- Skin temperature sensors
- cEDA sensors for continual body-response tracking
- Built-in GPS
- Smartphone notifications & connectivity
- Amazon Alexa
- SpO2
- Exercise tracking
- Sleep tracking
The Sense 2 is here to provide for all health and fitness needs. While Fitbit’s main brand focus is on sports tech, the team has put all of its latest sensors and fitness features into the Sense 2 model – most notably the all-day body-response tracking.
But physical fitness isn’t the only option here. Emotional and mental health are also considered. If the body-response tracking notices any changes, the Sense 2 alerts the user to ask them how they’re feeling. Users can register their emotions to help them track their bodies and see how physical and mental fitness correlate.
Stress notifications and sleep management are also on offer, supplementing the health tools. These metrics can be managed via the Fitbit app, but users will need a Fitbit Premium Subscription to access these details.
Other health and fitness features include:
- Step counting
- Sports modes
- Distance tracking
- Calories
- & more
Sports modes on this watch include typical workouts, such as running, walking, and yoga. But the Sense 2 doesn’t stop there; more unconventional options are available too! From indoor climbing and Crossfit to paddleboarding, getting active is easier than ever.
Other Sense 2 Features
Fitness will always be a focus for this brand, but the Sense 2 provides helpful smart features too. Here’s what users can enjoy with a Sense 2:
- Always-On display
- 2-3 days battery
- ‘Quick Replies’ for Android messaging
- Messages and calls (view-only)
- Fast charging
- 50M water resistance
So far, the only drawback to this model is the lack of Google inclusion. Users can’t yet access Google Maps or Google Wallet.

However, before you jump ship, make sure you assess the all-new Fitbit Sense 2. While this watch doesn’t look especially different, the host of features is optimized to help you become your best self.
With a complete range of fitness tools and an attractive design, we can see this smartwatch being a hit for health-focused users. But, if you want a smartwatch that integrates with your smartphone and Google, you might want to explore alternative options.
