If you’re looking for a high-performing fitness device that won’t break the bank, the Amazfit Bip S could be the ideal choice for you. Although it isn’t the best-known name in the industry, Amazfit isn’t an entirely new entrant into the smartwatch and fitness tracker marketplace.
With a 31g of lightweight, a built in GPS, 50-meter water resistance, and a battery that lasts 40 days, who will not like this brilliant new release from Amazfit.
In fact, the brand already sells two popular budget Bip smartwatches – the Bip Lite and Amazfit Bip. The Bip S is the newest addition to its product lineup and has a lot to offer.
No Compromises On Design
Although some budget smartwatches cut corners when it comes to design, the Amazfit Bip S certainly doesn’t compromise. It’s 20mm silicone strap is friendly to the skin and can easily be interchanged. Meanwhile, the device’s polycarbonate body comes in a choice of four stylish colors and is exceptionally lightweight, weighing just 31g.
As a result, this is a comfortable watch to wear. Even better, it’s water-resistant to 5ATM, making it suitable for wear during wet runs and for tough gym workouts.
When it comes to the display, this device has a 1.28” Transflective TFT color touchscreen with 176×176 resolution, which can easily be read outdoors. An excellent feature of this device is its anti-fingerprint coating which keeps the screen clear and clean. Navigation is a breeze, too, with swipe gestures, long presses, and a single button allowing the user to access the menus with a smooth and responsive action.
Powerful Software
The watch is powered by the Amazfit OS, which may not be as interactive or powerful as the software offered by Apple or Google. Still, nevertheless, it gets the job done. An app pairs with the smartwatch to keep track of your stats, and Bluetooth 5.0 can be used for pairing with your smartphone.
Five watch faces are available by default, and another 15 on the app can be downloaded to your device. There are also five shortcuts – status, music, heart rate, PAI (Personal Activity Intelligence), and weather, together with a home screen revealing the time, battery, and date.
Other features of the watch UI include controlling music from various apps like JioSaavn, Gaana, Spotify, and even YouTube. You can skip tracks, play/pause, and even control the volume with the music tile. Furthermore, you can get call notifications (silent/reject), reminders, ideal alerts, find my phone, and goal notifications.
You get a timer and also a stopwatch in the watch itself. Via the software, you can also control your watch settings, including the brightness level, the notifications you receive, the music you’re playing, and more.
The onboard sensors include heart rate tracking, a three-axis geomagnetic sensor, GPS and GLONASS, and three-axis acceleration. All this enables you to closely monitor your vital statistics when working out, sleeping, or going about your everyday activities.
Fitness Tracking Capabilities
The core of this device is its fitness tracking functionality. Thanks to the app that accompanies this device, the Amazfit Bip S offers detailed stats. Syncing with your watch takes only a few seconds, and you’ll virtually instantly see your heart rate, daily goals, and sleep score, among others.
When it comes to workout features, there are 6 different modes – treadmill, outdoor running, walking, cycling, and swimming. New sports are likely to be added with future updates. The tracking data is impressively accurate in terms of heart rate, sessions, and step count. Even when you leave your phone at home, the standalone GPS built into the watch allows accurate progress and maps to be recorded.
By taking heart rate data that doesn’t require steps to generate your score – such as gender, age, resting, and maximum heart rates, and how your body responds to exercise – the PAI feature built into this device gives you more data about your health state.
This tracker will also record how many steps you take, how far you travel, and how many calories you burn. All the activities you complete in a day. This is then put into a chart for each day so you can see your progress at a glance. You’ll even see how many hours you’ve slept, with light and deep sleep detailed separately.
Battery Life
Perhaps the best thing about the Bip S is its long battery life. On just a single charge, this smartwatch can last for as long as 15 days before requiring a recharge. Depending on how many notifications you choose to receive, along with your desired brightness level, you could get between 12 days and two whole weeks of power.
The device manufacturers claim that this watch can last for 40 days without a recharge if used lightly, 15 days of heavy use, and around 22 hours when the GPS is continually in use. Charging is speedy, too, taking about 90 minutes to complete an entire charge. Charging is a breeze, with magnetic charging snapping onto the pin on the rear of the smartwatch.
Unfortunately, you can’t use the watch while you’re charging it, but on the upside, you will continue to receive notifications.
BioTracker PPG Pulse Monitor
An important feature to track and monitor our heart rate. The watch also gives a warning to ant Tachycardia or Bradicardia situations. It also detects if our heart rate intervals are not in a constant rhythm.

An Overall Verdict
Suppose you’re in the market for an all-around high-performing fitness tracker on a budget that has a good display for outdoor viewing and built-in GPS. In that case, the Amazfit Bip S could be a top contender on your shortlist.
It’s a pretty decent smartwatch for its price point. Still, if more customization is important, this might disappoint you. Compared to some of the top choices from the biggest brands out there, the Amazfit Bip S’s customizations are few and far between at the present time.
Take a look at some of the best fitness trackers from Garmin for increased customization.
The Amazfit Bip S is perfect for cyclists, runners, and even swimmers, thanks to its water resistance. And as an added advantage, you can even play your music through this device. At the same time, you exercise and control it from your wrist, which is an excellent additional feature to make workouts more fun.
It’s worth bearing in mind, though, that this is primarily a fitness tracker rather than a smartwatch, and as such, its fitness features are really at the fore. Still, this device certainly has a lot to like, and it will undoubtedly satisfy a fitness fan looking for a budget-friendly choice.
