Apple Watch 7 vs Fitbit Sense
Deciding between these two smartwatches might leave you scratching your head. With similar features and a similar square design, it’s hard to tell the difference at first glance.
But, some key features set these watches apart. For example, a significant difference is that the Apple Watch 7 is only available to iPhone users. Whereas Fitbit Sense is compatible with both Android and iOS devices.
We’ve broken the critical points of each smartwatch down to help you decide which suits your needs best.
Design
Design is what we first notice, so it’s always important to consider this key factor!
Both smartwatches feature a sleek square watch face design, so if you’re interested in this modern style, either watch will work for you. But, if you’re looking for more color options, you might want to browse the Apple Watch 7 since it’s available in Silver, Green, Black, Red, and Blue. The Sense is only available in Graphite, Silver, and Gray.
The Fitbit Sense can only be purchased in one size: 40.5mm. This watch includes a 1.58-inch display with a 336 x 336-pixel resolution. This gives users an easy-to-read screen that isn’t too bulky and an “always-on” design.
However, Apple offers the Apple Watch 7 in two sizes, 41mm and 45mm: ideal if you have trouble with watch sizing. The 45mm Apple Watch 7 has a 1.9-inch display and offers a resolution of 484 x 396 pixels with “always-on” technology.
Both watches are designed to be waterproof up to 50 meters. This leaves both splash-proof, but they shouldn’t be submerged in water for over 30 minutes.
Battery Life
Another critical aspect of smartwatch design is battery life. No one wants to end up with a watch that needs charging every few hours!
The Fitbit Sense offers a six-day battery life. If you like to get out and active, this is perfect. You’ll be able to go on hikes and adventures without worrying about charging your smartwatch. This was also a big pro for Fitbit when we compared the Fitbit Sense with the Galaxy Watch 3.
On the other hand, Apple only offers 18 hours of battery life. This is one of Apple’s key drawbacks, as users need to be close to charging outlets to use their watch every day. Luckily, the Series 7 model has 33% faster charging than previous devices, but battery life is still an issue.
Fitness & Health
Smartwatches are known for their impressive on-wrist technology. While not all shoppers will be looking for advanced fitness tech, it’s worth noting if you like to work out or want to improve your health.
Both watches offer:
- ECG sensors
- Heart rate alerts
- SpO2 monitoring
- Pedometer functions
- Distance & pace
The Fitbit Sense offers additional EDA monitors and skin temperature sensors too. These are impressive monitors, and users claim they give accurate results also to measure your stress levels. With the Sense 2 you also get what is called a cEDA which measures your electrodermal activity continuously and able to notify you of stress changes in real time. Newer watches from Apple namely the Ultra, Series 8 and SE 2 already have the temperature sensor but no EDA sensor.
While the Apple Watch Series 7 lacks these trackers, it does offer additional always-on altimeters, compass functions, and incident detection/SOS software, so if you want to be kept safe while out and about, the Apple Watch might suit your needs better.
Apple also offers their popular “Apple Watch Rings,” which give users a fun visual of their daily movement thresholds. Fitbit has a similar tracker called “Activity Xone Minutes,” which tracks your cardio, fat burn, etc. Fitbit even comes with a “Daily Readiness Score” that keeps track of your recovery, ensuring you don’t get injured. Apple doesn’t yet offer this software.
Price
Price is always a deciding factor, so let’s look at how much these smartwatches cost.
These two smartwatches come with a larger price difference. You can find the Apple Watch 7 for $399. This price goes up as you add LTE capability, different materials, or different sizes to your cart.
The Fitbit Sense starts $100 lower at $299. This watch isn’t available in cellular models. It lacks some of the premium features the Apple Watch 7 offers, but it still holds up as a well-rounded smartwatch.
If you’re looking for a fitness-focused solution and are not interested in day-to-day smart functions, you might want to save money and opt for the Fitbit Sense. But, if you want the whole smartwatch experience, it might be worth it to pay a little extra and embrace the Apple Watch 7 (or 8).

Additional Features
Extra features are exciting! Here are some additional features offered on the smartwatches.
Voice Assistant
Both brands offer voice assistance to help you navigate the watch without fuss. Apple offers its trademark, Siri, whereas Fitbit provides Google Assistant and Alexa.
Mobile Payments
Paying with on-wrist technology makes life easier. Luckily, both brands provide options to make shopping quicker than ever. The Apple Watch comes with Apple Pay, and Fitbit Pay is available on the Sense.
Cellular (LTE) Options
While a smartwatch doesn’t need to come with cell service to be helpful, it can improve the experience. The Apple Watch 7 is available in both cellular and non-cellular options. On the other hand, the Sense doesn’t provide any cellular technology and needs to be used with Wi-Fi. This was a category Apple also won when we compared the Apple Watch 7 against the Fenix 7, due to the Fenix’s lack of LTE compatibility.
Choosing Between the Apple Watch 7 and Fitbit Sense
Choosing a smartwatch doesn’t have to be complicated! Luckily, there are so many options these days, and there’s always a smartwatch to meet your needs. While the Apple Watch 7 is sophisticated and complete with high-tech sensors, it’s more expensive than the Fitbit Sense. The sense is also more focused on health and fitness features. If you want to enjoy fitness features for a lower cost, the Fitbit Sense might be your wearable.
