There is no denying that the Garmin Fenix 6X Pro is a fantastic watch. It ticks all the boxes in terms of tracking and fitness. But, with a hefty price tag, is there something out there that may offer genuine competition? Cue the Polar Grit X, a watch that claims to offer it all but for less! We took a look at both of these watches to see how they fared in comparison. Enabling you to purchase the one that suits your needs the best.
Which Has the Best Design – Garmin or Polar?
When it comes to design, the Polar Grit X comes in a 47mm model and has a small, medium, or large wristband option to suit every wrist size. The Fenix 6X Pro offers three different size choices – a 42 mm, a 47 mm, and a 51 mm option. This means you can pick a watch face that suits your wrist size and gives consumers a better choice.
The design of these watches is pretty well matched. Both offer dust resistance and 100m water resistance, replaceable straps, and both use an always-on display to keep you up to date. However, the Fenix 6X Pro does not have a touchscreen choosing to offer buttons to navigate. Whereas the Polar grit X offers both touch navigation and button navigation.
Both watches also offer similar measurements. The Polar Grit X weighs in at 64g with a 240 x 240-pixel resolution and the Fenix 6X Pro weighs in at 84G and a 260 x 260-pixel resolution. When you consider how close they are in terms of physical design, it is hard to choose which brand has done it best. Although, with the choice of three sizes and a marginally better resolution, the Garmin device just beats the Polar Grit X on design.
Which Offers the Best Smart Features – Garmin or Polar?
It is important to note that even when you are buying a watch with sports tracking in mind, there will also be some smart features that are offered to make your life a bit simpler.
The Garmin Fenix 6X Pro and Polar Grit X both offer detailed levels of tracking. This includes step counting, sleep tracking, and a continuous heart rate monitor. However, the Polar Grit X step counting is not as accurate as the Fenix 6X Pro. Counting more steps than had been taken by around 5% each day. However, the Polar Grit X sleep tracking offers a greater level of detail than the Fenix 6X Pro. It can be analyzed each day or looked at via the app for an even greater understanding of your sleep health.
The Fenix 6X Pro does impress with its range of features that include ongoing notifications from your phone, contactless payments, offline music, and app downloads to help you personalize your device. Sadly, the Polar Grit X is not as impressive in this area. It does not even have offline support for Spotify, meaning that you will get little use from it as a smartwatch for your everyday life.
If you are keen to choose a watch that can traverse your daily life and sports life, then the Fenix 6X Pro is the best choice. Especially if you are eager to have contactless payments on your wrist.
Which Offers the Best Sports Tracking – Garmin Fenix 6X Pro or Polar Grit X?
Both of these watches come with a high level of fitness tracking capabilities. They will impress you with the number of sports and exercises that can be tracked. The Polar Grit X offers 130 different sports modes, and you can pick up to 20 to keep on your watch at any one time. Some of the most popular sports include all types of running, including ultra running, snowboarding, cycling, and swimming. Plus, you can enjoy detailed analysis after your workout has ended, helping you to improve your own performance.
The Garmin Fenix 6X Pro also has a long list of sports that can be tracked. These include skiing, kayaking, climbing, and the more traditional options! The Garmin app also offers detailed analysis so that you can understand how hard you have worked with each workout. For us, the Garmin Fenix 6X Pro wins out on sports tracking as it has more outdoor sports available. This makes it more beneficial to the type of audience that would want to consider buying one of these watches.
Which Offers the Best Battery Life – Garmin Fenix 6X Pro or Polar Grit X?
There is no doubt that having to remove your watch to charge it can be frustrating. Especially if you have a watch that needs to be charged every day. When you pick either the Garmin 6X Fenix Pro or the Polar Grit X, you can look forward to between 5 – 7 days of charge before needing to plug in!
The Polar Grit X comes with 40 hours of GPS charge or seven days of non-GPS usage. This means that the average battery will last you around five days. Perfect for your fitness needs and means that you don’t need to worry about plugging in during the working week. You will, however, need to remember to pack your charger when you are heading off on holiday!
In choosing the best device for battery life, these two offer a similar outcome, with the Fenix 6X Pro just beating the Polar Grit X. However, the Fenix 6X Pro does work better when the battery is low and continues to offer accurate tracking until it powers down.
The Verdict – Which is Best Overall – Garmin Fenix 6X Pro or Polar Grit X?
Choosing the best watch for your needs is a personal decision, especially in terms of the budget you have available and the tools you need to have access to. However, if you are looking for a watch that can support you in the great outdoors, then we would suggest that the Fenix 6X Pro wins as it comes with longer battery life and has more outdoor-specific features for you to enjoy.
