There’s no doubt that Garmin is one of the best smartwatch manufacturers in the world. However, the Garmin Vivoactive 4 was released in 2019, and we think that it’s absolutely time for an upgrade. We did some digging to find out what to expect from the new device. Here are our findings so that you can get as excited as we are!
We think the main benefit of the Vivoactive family is the transreflective display which can be a game changer outdoor, especially in the sun. Add to that the more affordable price, substantially lower than that of the Venu 2 which make it a winner for a lot of people. That is why we are constantly monitoring announcements from Garmin and waiting for news regarding the Vivoactive 5. This new release could also come together with the announcement of the Fenix 7 which we are expecting.

When will the Garmin Vivoactive 5 be released?
Currently, there is no actual release date for the new Garmin Vivioactive 5, though there are rumors of an announcement. However, this does not mean that we cannot share our best guess!
The Vivoactive 3 was first released in 2017, and the Vivoactive 4 then followed in 2019. If Garmin follows that trend, then we expect a new device announcement and release before 2021 ends – giving us all something to look forward to.
What Design Can We Expect?
Garmin is unafraid to push the boundaries of design when creating a new watch. However, we’re pretty convinced that the design of the Vivoactive 5 is going to be a rounded design.
We do, however, expect to see some varying size options to choose from to make it accessible for all sizes. The previous model came in a 45mm option and a 40mm edition and sits comfortably on the wrist. In addition to offering similar sizes with the new device, we also expect to see a range of color options.
There are many rumors about an AMOLED screen for the newest Vivoactive, but we don’t agree. Ultimately, adding AMOLED will reduce the battery life and cost more per unit, two things that Garmin won’t want to do to their loyal following. However, will be alterations to the screen resolution and brightness so that customers can see a genuine difference between devices.

What Features Will the New Garmin Vivoactive 5 Offer?
To interest current Vivioactive wearers, Garmin will need to offer a range of exciting new features as they did when the Sp02 monitor came. Firstly, we expect to see a new range of training features, including new metrics. Adding new metrics would be one of the simplest changes to make.
One feature that consumers want to see on smartwatches right now is a body temperature feature. Other rumors include a possible glucose monitor and even a white blood pressure monitoring system, which sounds very exciting.
The final feature that we feel Garmin is under pressure to offer is a cellular model with their next release. Most of us want to train without our phones, but still, want access to safety features and accurate tracking. Both of these can be resolved with a cellular version.
Will There be an SQ?
If you are a fan of the square Garmin devices, then you are sure to want to know if there will be an SQ edition. Unfortunately, there have been no rumors to give us any hope that this will be the case. When you consider that the last SQ Vivoactive was only on the earliest devices, then we are pretty sure it’s a no-go.
How Long Will the Garmin Vivoactive 5 Battery Last?
Garmin devices tend to come with good battery life, and the Vivoactive 4 has an impressive eight days of life.
In reality, all consumers would like good battery life—but we hope the Vivoactive 5 comes with at least two weeks of life!
How Much Will the New Garmin Vivoactive 5 Cost?
Guessing the price of a device is risky business, especially with no confirmed features or design specs. However, Garmin doesn’t tend to overprice their watches, and the last Vivoactive 4 dropped at $259.99 for the small version and $279.99 for the large version. Interestingly, you can purchase both types of Vivoactive 4 for less online. So, we hope that the new device isn’t much more than the release price.
As with all new releases, if you are able to wait a few months before you purchase, you are more likely to get a discount or lower price, so take your time to figure out whether you want to get it right away or if you are happy to wait.
Will the Garmin Vivoactive 5 be Worth Purchasing?
Whilst the information on the new Garmin Vivoactive 5 is not as forthcoming as we would like, our guess is that it will be well worth the wait, especially if the other Vivoactive watches are anything to go by! We all know that Garmin makes high-quality and durable watches that provide the support we need to live well and exercise frequently, so if this sounds like the kind of life you want to lead, then the watch is worth considering. As soon as we have more information, we will share it!
